Pannier strengthening fillet

I'm trying to draw up a CAD drawing for the scalloped fillet which fits along the join between the pannier floor and the hull side but I don't seem to have a complete drawing for it.

I've also noticed that the design has changed between the steel one included with the Early Tiger and the integral one now included since the Late Tiger kit.

Does anyone have access to the dimensions or can let me know of a reference book/site which includes these details ?

I hope to be able to drop into Bovington before work one day this week but I don't know if the Tiger is still on display

Saw the new Tiger engine, at the end of last month. The tank was still on display in the museum, then, but they did say the new engine was to be installed during October. May be worth a phone call?

Thanks for the heads up John, I may sneak down there anyway - I haven't been since TankFest so there's quite a few bits I'd like to get photographed.

Rocky, I've got the drawing Tim created but that was only for one half of the fillet, as his Late Tiger has the other half already built in to the panner floor. My 2003 Mid Tiger doesn't have this detail, so I need both halves

it was a pleasure to meet you at open day. Still waiting for my securing bolt tabs from Brown. Are you still doing your Tiger. Did not know your state of build. With regards to your fillets for the panniers I may help you. Only I have to do a drawing in 1:6 first. May I ask what specificly you are looking for. Shape, dimensions measurments ? Probably a section drawing will do the job for you and is less time consuming for me.

Hi Roland.

My 2003 Mid Tiger now has a new floor, suspension bars, shafts and axles.
Next job is to convert all the wheels to use the current spacer system. I'll post some pictures once there are enough parts assembled

My idea with the pannier fillet is to have the part cut from 2mm aluminium and epoxy it into position, maybe with a couple of positioning holes. I'm having new aluminium pannier floors cut as well, so I can line the holes up on the two parts to make installation of the fillet easier.

I've roughed out the length and scallops, using Tim's dimensions (Thanks Tim ) for one side and the old steel part from the Early Tiger for the other:

I hope to get to Bovington tomorrow, (oops, today ) and will try and take a succession of photographs along each side of the Tiger so I can stitch them together and make up composite pictures of the whole of each of the panniers.

Actully, it wasn't too bad, though I was doing the measuring whilst the Sherman and Leopard were doing their thing in the Arena, which may have made a difference.

I could only get to the whole of one side of the Tiger due to a couple of display stands, but I have taken pictures all the way along the LH side, so I just need to find out if I can stitch the pictures together.

One interesting thing is that the studs which go up into the pannier floor are at different spacings at different places along the length.

Also took pictures of the fillet which goes on the outside edge of the final drives, as well as a load of pictures of the rear deck, or at least what's left as they've removed all the armoured covers.

I'll post some pictures once I've sorted through them all.

here is a fraction of what I got of the right hand side. It is of the early Tiger I. The circles lined up are the heads of rivets, not the bores.

I have 36 photographs to stitch together to make up the composite of the full run along the hull, but at present Photoshop is not playing ball

I think the information I have from yourself and Tim, in tandem with the photographs, should give me the basis for the drawing I need to get the parts cut.

I also took measurements of the front hull plates and fillets, so I can add those to the order too.

Hi All.
Just a thought here, but seeing as the Tiger I is soon to be in production again, maybe Armortek could do a run of strips from the panniers. Not the entire pannier floor, just the detail section, at the width that we'd require, and it would require no folding at all. It may not be exactly prototypical, but would at least match what is already incorporated into the pannier floors, and would go some way to being representative?
Just a thought.
