Hi Guys

Here are the first of my line of tank jacks that I am producing. In a effort to please everyone and their budget I am offering these jacks as assembled and as kits in three forms. A fully functional jack in metal, a static (nonfunctional) jack in metal and a resin cast jack (nonfunctional), all with correct, working, mounting brackets.

To continue with the production of these I need to get some idea of what is required by customers. The 20 Ton Long Jack has never been offered before with this sort of detail, as it fits late production Tiger 1's, Tiger 2's and early Panther Ausf A and Jagdpanther I am hoping for a high demand for them. The 20 Ton Short Jack has never been offered as a functional jack or as a resin casting, this was on all late Panther Ausf A, all Ausf G's and all late Jagdpanthers.

As I know, very well, money is short these days, which is why I cannot go into full production on these without some customer commitment. I am offering some special deals on pre-orders. If I get enough pre-orders I will have the jacks in production by the middle of September, maybe sooner.

Special pre-order rates.
1. Pay a 25% deposit now, pay the balance when order is ready to ship and receive a 10% discount.
2. Pay the full amount now and receive a 15% discount.
Pre-orders available until August 5, 2011.

Here are some pictures of the casting masters that I have already produced. These masters will be used to produce the functional, static and resin cast models.

Masters assembled.

Masters disassembled. Still to make are the gear ribs, handle (two types), crank detail and three different sets of mounting brackets for the Tiger 1, Tiger 2 and Panther horizontal mounted jack. Panther short vertical jack brackets already made.

Functional jack internal gears. These are store purchased plastic gears to show how they fit together and fit in the jack body. The final gears may be metal cast or cut from high strength plastic. Please note the functional jack is not a working jack. It will operate like the real one, but will not, I do not think be strong enough to actually raise a axle arm on a all metal model tank. To do this would mean making the gearing similar to the real one, see picture of gearing for a 15 Ton Jack designed by Roland Mann. To purchase a set of gears like this will cost over a $100.00 and the jack components will have to be brass or bronze cast to make it strong enough. This would put the price of a working jack that will actually jack up a tank axle arm in the high $100's. My design is a fairly simple set of gears just to make the jack function.

Here is a comparison picture of the long and short 20 Ton Jack. Note that the short jack has a flat top, most tank jacks have the cup style top for fitting under the axle arms which is what my short jack will come with. The jack in the picture may not have been a tank jack.

Hi Mike,
Nice looking jacks. But I'm a little confused. Which jack would be on a early Panther G (May-Aug44)? The Panther short 20 ton you say was Dec 44 onwards? Would it be the 20 ton long?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob

All Panther G's had the short 20 Ton Jack mounted in the vertical postition according to my reference books, the confusion you had was the way I worded to listing in the picture of the real jacks, I have changed the wording so it should read better, it was the Jagdpanther that was fitted with the short 20 Ton Jack in Oct 44, I had original listed Dec 44, which I have now corrected.

All of the information I post is taken from reference books, which may have wrong information or I misread it. Sometimes takes a second eye to see these mistakes.

I also made a mistake on the long 20 Ton Jack fitted to the Tiger 1, this was not introduced until Jan 44 and therefore would not be on Mid production Tiger 1 as I originally stated, also corrected.

Regards
Mike
