Hi All,

Just fitting the mudguards and detailing the nose of the M7. How have people gone about making and fitting the shackle points to the transmission cover.

Has anyone cast or machined any that they could offer?

Hi Dave,
I machined mine from Aluminum and drilled holes through the casting into the shackle mount. I also machined slots in the casting to fit the mount into. I only made 2 as I didn't intend to sell them. There is a photo in my gallery of the completed mount. The shackles are not 100% accurate.

Hi Dave,

There is a x-sectional drawing of the M4A3 in several of the ref books. I scanned it and printed it out at 1/6th. The towing ears are roughly like a long thin triangles with a slightly concave lower edge. They need to be quite beefy as they are vulnerable if the model is to be run.

I used 6mm steel plate cut on a bandsaw. Drilled and tapped with three studs (4mm dia)each. The end of the studs were ground to a 60 degree point,locktited into the ears and offered up to the hull and, with a gentle hammerblow, used to mark the hole centres. The gear casing was then drilled clear and the ears and studs offered up. Finally a flat was filed into the gear case to get the ear to sit nice and steady. The studs were secured inside the hull with nylock nuts. Fake welding beads can be added last.
