Armortek

Could anybody tell me if the cupola mounted MGs were belt fed from the cannisters or straight from a ammo box, the type that were carried. Also to confirm that the bags that were fitted to the mounts were for the empty cases or the empty belt itself.
Just cant seem to find any photo details at all.

Hello Chris

The Cuploa mounted MG34 was normally fed from a bag called a Gurt sack.Which held 250 rounds. They where held onto the mount buy two prongs that came out from the side.See Photo on the Armorpax website. www.armorpax.com

The Mg34 was a special version of the normal one as the one issued for Tanks had a Armored barrel. which for obvious reasons was more robust than the infantry one.The down side to the armoured version is that it was prone to overheating quicker.
There was no round catchers as you say they normally spilt onto the floor or deck. Hope this helps.

If you can find the original Armortek Forum Craftsmans Market section, look for the posting of 17 April 2007 by Mike Stannard regarding "MG AA MG34/42 Metal Ammo Belts". This was his second announcement following the original announcement of December 2006.

The announcement is accompanied by several illustrations of his stunningly good prototype Gurt Sack, with a MG34 machine gun, and with ammo belts (by Auggie Remero of Battle Gear Toys), and ammo.

I do not know whatever became of Mike's mention of making the Gurt Sack and also offer the ammo and belt (Mike, are you reading this?), but it would sure be a welcome addition to my Tiger I.
