Which tiger?
I'm thinking of making my late tiger as one ofWittman's tigers. Possibly 205 or the one used at villiers bocage (was this 212 or 222).
Any information on manufacture date and number colours would be of help. I know it a bit corney as there are too many Wittmann tanks running around but I'm new here. I am open to suggestions on other interesting tanks from his unit.

This is my kind of topic...

My last build ever after all my other "still in box" kits has been built, and I have enough skill to build the tank I really, really want and that will be Wittmanns Late Tiger 1 from WB.

Today it is with 99,9% safe to say he used #212 (Bobby Wolls Tiger)
No doubt Ant will be of another opinion...(please only joking... )

Has researched for years how that specific Tiger would have looked like but will keep all that finding to myself this time, sorry.
Simply too much effort just to be given away.

sSSPzAbt.101 in Normandy is one of the most documented discussed and photographed Tiger 1 units and on the web there is tons of information to grab.

Try to google 'Tiger im Focus' (spelt right), this has lots of photo's to look at, especially the 101st .. you should get this site come up if you put a search on this etc.

I want to buy some books on the tiger 1. Can anybody recommend some good ones with decent technical info ect.
One I was looking at is the midriffs guide to the tiger tank. Any feed back. They have it at a good price in wh smith but they will not deliver to me in Ireland so would need to pick up in person. 150 km away

"Tiger 1 and Sturmtiger in Detail" Culver & Feist

There ars several others I have and that are available but the ones above are my 'go to' books.

Tiger 1 on the western front already on order.
I will try to get modeler's guide to the tiger tank also. I will have a round trip of 300 km as the shop that has it will not post outside UK.
I believe Haynes ar bringing a workshop manual out soon. That should be interesting. Osprey have a book, modelling the Tiger 1 which has some interesting models. They mention the different zimmerit applications on the turret and hull and how to achieve the correct look on the turret.

My favorite (out of two...) is Jentz & Doyle Germany's Tiger tanks - D.W. to Tiger 1: Design, production and modifications with focus on just that.

Christoffer is 100% correct. That is another excellent one and should have mentioned.

Tigers in color by Waldemar Trojca looks interesting. I have the Panther version and it had some interesting color plates.Do not have the Tiger one as I think I have already settled the camo and look for my Tiger 1.

The modeling book you mention is good along with another similar book that I can't remember the title of at the moment. The sanding down of the turret zimmerit was something I was going to attempt as a test along with some other ideas. The overlapping grooves in the turret zimmeit will be fun to experiment with to try replicate with home made tools. Looking forward to that.

looking forward to seeing your results. Scaled up it looks like the Turret zimmerit is about 35 cm wide. I will try some test boards also but want to see more pictures first. I will use milliput. Nice to work with and cures really well. Thanks again for the details for the wheels. I ordered fome nuts and bolts last night. The only ones I have not found were the long ones that keep the caps on. I will look again at the weekend.

Have a few books on order. Unable to get modelers guide to the tiger tank. The site that has it says it will be in stock in four weeks but on speaking with a member of staff it appears that this means not available. Found another but again Uk postage only.

Latest update. Managed to get a copy of modelers guide to tiger also on eBay at bargain price of £12.50.
Also got tiger 1 and sturmtiger in detail.

That should help my research.
