Timbo's Sdkfz 7 Build
G’day Fellows
Haven’t been on the site for a while, a lot of amazing detail builds
I have been busy with work and to relive a bit of stress I started to make my Sdkfz 7
Why the Germans didn’t give it a cat name I will never know.
Well here are some photos of the first pack
I do not even know at this stage what colour to paint it let alone how detail to get with it.
One thing I can say it’s bloody long
So stat tuned my fellow hobbyist

Thanks Tim and Stewart for the comments.
Stewart , if I may, I will hit you with some questions during the build.
In relation to colours would you prime the base metal in grey?
The top coat will be the colour seen in 1944 as it will go into battle with my late tiger.
Also any ideas were to put some welds?
As you may have guessed I am not too familiar with these rigs I just know they are long!
I have finished pack 2 so here are some photos not that much to see manly some arms at the back.
So stay tuned my fellow hobbyist

Hi Tim, like many other builders I first of all would wipe all the metal down with acetone which removes all the grease and any slight trace of rust. With regards to primer I use U-Pol Acid etch primer which is grey. This provides an excellent base on which to use your colour of choice.
The 7 was only lightly armoured and I havent found any evidence of welding apart from brackets and the usual suspects. Its a tractor used for towing and not a tank but it is very long but not as big as a Famo towing unit.
Keep the pictures coming
When I started to build mine I made a half inch thick piece of wood which I could reotate on my work bench which made it easier to work on.

As Dale has said Vince abbott is one of the finest builders around. Here is another link to his models

Check out the halftrack video.
The BBC working lunch team visited Armortek a while ago and somewhere there is a very good video of Vince`s halftrack. (U Tube?)
I think he is to busy making animatronics for the film and advertising industry these days. He used to make and market superb parts for Armortek models. He might pop in here again one day.

Thanks for the links Dale and Stewart
Very informative if mine comes out ½ as good I will be happy.
Stewart I took you advice and cleaned the chassis, well I didn’t, but I was happy with the result!
Whilst the chassis was being cleaned I got out the motion / effects pack bloody hell lucky this rig is long.
Also here is a question
Stay tuned my fellow hobbyist

If I had of put a photo of me up their, the chassis may have come into criticism
You see Dale, it is a cunning plan by me so the focus is away from the chassis, I don’t know why!
Started on pack 3 –Drive cases so first think is to locktite in the Bearings
Then I spray the Driven gear not the shaft with Molybond 122L Dry Film Lubricant
So if get a chance tomorrow I will fit
Stay tuned fellow hobbyist

Hay Tim,
I had a willing helper like that, but she's into Vodka ice and boys now you can find a bit of help here on my build page, http://www.paulstiger1.co.uk/
Just click on the photos, and if I had a problem with a part of the build I have added comments on what I did to get round it.
I have anther half track to build and I am being lazy this time, I have got Tim Catton to make some of the detailed parts.
Paul.
