Hi There

I have been researching German camo schemes for my upcoming re - paint on my Mid Tiger 1.. most of the photo's show that they were spray painted but some look like they were painted by brush with sharper edge lines to the paint scheme finish etc.
I dont suppose in the field they always had access to spray guns?

I was thinking about painting slowly with brush by hand.. any thoughts would be welcome etc.. :)

regard Tony.

Hi Tony
Welcome, Most the german tanks had a compresser and carried spray equipment for painting in the field...

Hope this helps

Hi Derek

Thanks for your reply,

I did not realise that crews carried there own spray equipment, I thought that the support units carried such gear!
I have seen photos were it looks like they have brush painted as the lines are to sharp for spray finish etc.. ? I assumed that they had probably done a quick paint job by hand as to say..

Regards Tony. :)

Hi Tony

I've seen war-time photos of crew members spraying camouflage in the field. Many of the later war, 'hard edge' camouflages were pained at the factory before the vehicle was transported to the unit level. I guess that doesn't apply to your mid Tiger though.

Maybe research the particular unit you are interested in representing. If no particular unit, just pick the camo that you like. After all, it's your Tiger, paint it the way that makes you happy. :D

Can't wait to see it!
Best regards
Tim

Hi Tim

Thanks for the reply, I will be painting a new camo scheme over the winter.. not sure what yet but I have seen some nice ones that I like. It will probabley be from the 101st SS panzer battalion.. most likely Bobby Woll's tank..

I have tried to find photo's of his tank from when he was a commander.. No 212 I believe (info from from Panzerace.net), it would be nice if I could find this and then try to copy camo etc

Any ideas?

Regards Tony. :)

Hi Tony

Mine will represent Tiger #223 commanded by Oberscharfürher Jürgen Brandt of s.SS-Pz.Abt. 101, June-July of 1944.

Here's a nice post with unit/panzer photos. Of course, no 212. but, it's pretty safe to say it had the same mottled 3-color camouflage paint job. If I remember right, Kent Wiik was planning on doing Tiger # 212 and if anyone would know the accuracy of the paint scheme, he would.

Hi Tim

Thanks for the photo link etc.. there are some really nice photo shots there, I have not made my mind up just yet but it will be from the 101st..

It would be nice to complete one that nobody else has done.. I kind of like to do the research and find out the full story of what happened to each tank commander then decide, I feel it puts a little more meaning behind what I'm trying to recreate as to say.. adds to the story etc..

So plenty of reading at the moment.. all good fun

Regards Tony.
