Paul Will's K.T. Gets the treatment ... at last

Post by Paul Morris »

Hi fellas.
Well after a bit of a break from things "Tanky" I have finally made a start on the next King Tiger "yes Paul it really is yours" :D
Paul had already made a great job of putting the beast together, so down to me for Zimm and paint.

There were a couple of areas where Paul had asked me to do a little bit of machining, around the drive housing armor and on the revolving periscope to make Mike Stannards parts fit that Paul has told me he is going to fit with the clear lenses, should look great.

On the surface of the deck you can see a bit of texture going on "Courtesy of Clive" great idea with the knifing putty I like now I have got the hang of it,thanks Clive

Thats it for now...back to the Milliput.
Cheers Paul

milliput

Post by yves mouton »

Hi Paul,

I see a lot of boxes milliput, i use also milliput for the welding.
I have a couple of questions for you, if you put zimmerit on the paint comes the zimmerit not loose? Because i have seen that some builders put the zimmerit on the metal and than paint the body. My next question is your texture looks great is that also done with the milliput? Can you explain how you do that please.

Best regards Yves

Hi Yves.
The areas where the zimmerit is going to be missed off are the only areas I paint first, all the Milliput is applied over unpainted metal you get an overlap here and there but it is nothing to worry about, I always rough up the bare metal with coarse sand paper and then score it with an old modelling knife before the Milliput goes on.
The textured surface treatement is a borrowed idea from Clive Lockwood who you will have seen on the forum and is a very tallented scratch model builder and does some very nice cast parts as well . The texture is done by mixing a "Knifing putty" with cellulose thinners which gives you a sloppy gloop that can then be stippled onto the surface giving an irregular appearance, dead simple and works great.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Paul

Looks great Paul!

I notice in your earlier post you have sprayed what looks like a yellow primer, what is this and are you spraying it over the etch primer.

What paint are you using for the final base coat?

Best Regards

David

hello David.

The yellow paint is a filler primer freely available in the U.K. in an aerosol can, and yes i do apply it over the top of the etch primer.
