Just wondering , how much of a gap other KT owners have around their turret roof and turret sides ?? My one has a gap of about 1 -1.5 mm . Plus how are you guys adding the fake weld around the edge , to still aloue the roof to be removed ?? Dale

hello dale,

i take it the gap is the different height from the turret roof to the turret sides, looking at the real 104 at bovington the roof was higher than the sides, which is easier to attach the milliput for the welds for me anyway as the roof is permintly bolted down, on my jagdpanther which i have to take the roof off, what i did was with the roof inplace put some very thin metal, shim steel is good for this against the roof side then lay the milliput agaist this and the turret sides, this is to stop the miliput sticking to the roof, and when you remove the metal your left with a very thin gap but you can lift the roof off, and the weld is as close to the roof as you can get,
hope this helps, chris.

The way i did my late Tiger 1 was to wrap a piece of pvc insulating tape around the edge of the turret top then bolt this in place and apply the milliput. When set the turret top can be unbolted and the tape removed which should leave a neat weld and very small clearence gap.
Hope this helps
Steve

Hi Dale.
If you look on my thread on the white King Tiger you will see that I did just the same as Chris, only I left the centre roof section as an access panel for maintenance.
Cheers Paul

Thanks everyone I can see lots of good ideas now . Paul I had a look at your white KT very nice welds .. I will make my roof into one lift off peace . them I'm going to pin and glue some K@S brass angle around the roof edge and lay my weld in there .. I'll post some photos for other owners if it works OK .. Dale
