Brown's Tiger 1 Mid Production Build

Just received the 2010 #13 Mid Production Tiger 1 today. I won't get started on this tank for a while as the motion and sound packs for my KT were also delivered! The Tiger 2 must be rolling by mid August for my nephew's visit.
Is the muzzle brake for the Tiger 1 really that much bigger than the KT muzzle brake? The T1 armor is noticeably lighter than the KT's. I am used to dealing with heavier parts for the KT I've been working on.
Really look forward to diving into this model!

Ok Tiger 1 builders I have a question:
What is the most accurate sized bolt/nut combination for the early and mid production road wheels?
I'm torn between 6 and 7 BA bolts and nuts.
The reason I ask this now is that Adrian Harris and I are working on lock washers for the early and mid T1 road wheels. Adrian came up with design and I'm helping by etching them in brass. It will be good if one size washer will work for all Tiger 1s. This may not be the case if the most accurate sized bolt is significantly different from the M2.5 sized nuts that are standard in the Armortek kits. We will see.

Hi Brown,
this have been mentioned before, however, here is the metric answer :
Bolts in real are M18 and therefor in our model M3.
Nuts have a spanner with of 27 mm and in our model 4,5 mm.
Sorry but I have no clue what this will be in imperial size. At least you have a starting point for your calculation.

Thanks Roland - I remember reading this before
For the actual bolt size, where 1:1 M18 == 1:6 M3
M3 is 5mm across faces, so slightly too large.
M2.5 is 5mm AF, so still too large.
For the spanner size, where 1:1 27mm == 1:6 4.5mm
6BA is 4.90mm across faces, 7BA = 4.37mm across faces.
It might be possible to get someone like EKP to make up M2.5mm bolts with 4.5mm heads, though
we would probably need to club together and get several thousand made to bring the cost down.

So in the 1/6 scale world the 7BA is 3% too small (.13 mm) as opposed to the 6BA which is 8% too large (.4 mm). Can we really dicern a 3% to 8%difference in nut size on our road wheels from a meter or 2 away (typical distance from standing eye level to a tank on the ground or display).
I'm all for a custom bolt, with custom nuts too. However, and this is from someone who spent a month making a KT gunsight, I now think I'm going with the 7BA nuts and bolts on my T1. I'll post some mock up picks of both the 6 and 7 BA hardware for folks to look at and comment on this weekend.

Smart man! Pick your 'accuracy' battles. You could spend a life time trying to get everything in perfect 1:6th scale on these models and I'd like to see your mid Tiger before I die.

Another consideration is that BA nuts and bolts heads seem to be thicker than the similar sized metric parts, which appear (to me) to be more like the full scale fasteners.

Hi Brown and Adrian,
when I was faced with this I used M2,5 nuts with SW 4,5. Yes it is possible to get the correct size. All the nuts then had to be cutted with M3. What a job.
Brow, if you are realy after scale, I may check my stock for M 2,5 nuts for you. I remember I had a lot of. A proposal limited to the absolut scale freak.

http://www.knupfer-grossbahn.de) scale bolts in M3 size have a spanner width of 4.0 mm. Not ideal either...
Is it correct that the inner wheels should have the bolt heads out? If so, things become still more complicated - there is really no room for nuts on the inside...
