Scorching day at Tankfest
My contribution. A great day out but spare a thought for Gill and Mark on duty all day in the heat. The Tank Museum were concerned that the numbers were down on last year - rival attractions of the beach and some football competion.
Star of the show was undoubtedly the Jagdpanzer, topical given the new release.
The Comet was going well and I enjoyed talking to SSM Hamilton Walker who joined 3RTR in 1944 and saw action in NW Europe in Comets. He was very complimentary about the Comet although he described the last couple of months of war as a "straight run through". He surprised me by saying that the fishtail exhausts did come in before the end of the war.
Sadly the Museum's Comet didn't run. I gathered that they had found a robin's nest in one of the infantry tank telephone boxes and didn't want to disturb the family.
I can only echo Simon's comment on Chris Fry's KT - it is quite superb. The detail is amazing and I was particularly struck by the double welds.
The PzIII ran out with the Jagdpanther. The bright sun lent itself to photographing the rolled armour surface and I also discovered another detail which I hadn't noticed before - the Rommelkiste turret bin is assymetric. I posted some photos on the Pz III thread.
Another great day, perhaps not as good as last year but Armortek was well represented. Hope Gill and Mark survived the day today!

A few more photos added to our facebook page from today.
We had an excellent weekend and would like to thank the South West Tank Club and all other Armortek customers that joined us and those that visited making the weekend so enjoyable. I believe we had the best showing of Armortek vehicles, with the exception of the customer open day, that we have had to date.
We would also like to thank you all for your help in setting up and taking down the tents etc at the start and end of the show which is very much appreciated.
Mark and Gill
