Hi Guys

Here at long last after around two years of research are the decals for the Tiger 1 88 mm AP and HE rounds, why so long you might ask, well I wanted them to be a close to the real thing as possible and it took the help of two experts on ammunition and even then there was some controversy as to what was correct. There just is not a book out there that gives you a 100% accurate description of the lettering and no photo's on the real thing that gives you a prefect picture of all the lettering. Even now I do not know for sure if these are 100% correct, but I think you will find they are the most accurate available.

These will be sold in sets of six, each set has different dates for fuse fitting, powder made, powder in, case made, factory ID's, primer makers and dates all to make them more realistic. I have included copies of my research dater I sent to Sixty Driver who made the decals so you will better understand how these are designed and should be used.

I plan to have sets available for sale at the OSF.

It was around 50 years ago as a kid that I last applied a water slide decal and I am do to good at it now as you will see from the samples that follow, however they still give you an idea of how they will look.

Tiger 1 88 mm AP Round decal sample applied to a brass cased round. Note the case side decal is applied near the center of the case. Both positions were used on both types of cases.

Tiger 1 88 mm AP Round base decal sample. Not all rounds had the "Pzgr." and "FES" stenciled on the base. These stencils were hand applied and could be in any position on the base and often covered the engraved lettering. Yes the primer was made of brass and used in both types of cases.

Hi Mike,

Decals look great! One question: Are these included at no additional charge for those who have already purchased and received their 88 ammo shipments, or do we need to order & pay for these separately? I know you may have already answered this in earlier messages, but I can't find that....

I bought these decals at the show. Unfortunately, I had a problem with mine. The printing rubs off the surface of the decal rather easily. especially if you scratch it with a fingernail. It seems that the lettering was not sealed over after they were printed or, if they were printed using a laser or ink jet printer onto the decal substrate, the toner didn't adhere well to the decal. In any event you have to be extremely careful (much more so than with the usual type of decals I am used to working with) to achieve success in putting them on the shells. I highly recommend sealing them with lacquer afterward or you will wear the lettering off in handling the shells.

Hi Jim

Please send the bad decals back to me, and I will replace them. I have tried rubbing the lettering off some of the sets I have and they seem to be okay. It may be just a bad sheet. When I get them back I will check with the person making them for me.

Mike
