Comet "Spaced Armour"

Found these two photos on the excellent Missing Lynx web site.
By early 1945, the hand held shaped charge weapon (panzerfaust) had become the most serious threat to tanks. The units of 29 Armoured Brigade started hanging jerry cans to cause the charge to detonate prematurely ie an early form of shaped armour.
First photo shows a tank from 3rd Royal Tank Regiment commanded by the late Harry Dews:
Second shows a tank from 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry hull down on the banks of the River Elbe. There are five jerry cans hung on the turret side and one beside the hull MG:
