I happened to come accross a complete kit of the old winson/modelworks 1/8 tiger 1 tank on ebay and purchased it for $1400 us dollars. Its the complete 1-9 kits without any options. Do you guys think it was a good deal? And how do you think I would be able to find a drive train for it...thanks for you suggestions...

PS..I happen to be an original armortek owner thats been away for a couple of years starting a family and bought a new house...im glad to be back.... :P

Hi Michael

Saw the Modelworks Tiger running at the London Model Engineering Exhibition earlier in the year. They were using a 2 stroke model engine to power it. It appeared to be steering by applying a brake to the tracks.

Control was very jerky, as you can imagine. Speed was ridiculously high. The track tension needed to keep the track in place meant that the track went from the top of the sprocket to the idler without touching the road wheels! Also very noisy, with lots of white smoke from the 2 stroke. I can't imagine any sound system being able to give it a realistic sound.

If you can convert yours to battery power, then you may have a running model at a reasonable price.

Hope this doesn't put you off.

Cheers

Mick

I dont plan on using a 2stroke engine in it..I bought it without any type of drive train..I plan on using electric motors. I was trying to get any ideas on what people thought about this tank and if it was worth what I paid for it..I was told the kit sold for over $4000 back in 2000-2001

Hi Michael,

I have only seen one of these kits assembled, to be honest I thought it lacked in detail, and the owner said he had done a lot to improve on it! Paul Morris has seen it and I think he knows the owner as well.

Not sure what you’re looking for us to say, at the end of the day you bought it, so it’s what you think of it and is it worth it to you, not us! they are the sort of questions that should be asked before you buy something  . Sorry if that sounds critical, it’s just my opinion.

Paul  .

Hi Michael, I bought one in January this year, the former owner had it running with a 2 stroke engine, and I think he used it for drag racing!!!.
anyway, this was my first large scale metal tank, and I found it a joy to work on, it had a great gearbox, but used one prop shaft, and to control each track it used micro switches and selenoids, to move the selectors, so I removed the central shaft and cog, so each front sprocket was independent, put in two electric motors each with its own shaft driving one side of the gearbox, and used the Tamiya control and sound unit out of a 1/16th tiger 1 model, this has worked ok of 12 volts,
the only problem you will have, is if you want to have a working turret and gun, when I got to this point I bought an Armortek tiger.

regards
Jeff

I was just looking for any info on these tanks...I couldn't find any information on the interenet , I did want to ask on the forum before I bought it but my registration on the forum was expired and it took a couple of days for them to update my info before I could post..I was afraid by that time I might lose the chance of buying this tank..I have not recieved it as of yet...

Hi Michael,

Badly worded, what I meant was, don’t let us put you off, or convince you, especially since you have bought it. Oh bugger it, I know what I meant.
Don't know why you can't find any info, they aren't that hard to find, although they have moved their site. follow this link http://www.modelworks-int.com/asp/default.asp Their drive kit shows a four stroke engine with the option pack.
