We have just added a selection of photos of the M2 US Half Track Prototype to the gallery.

http://www.armortek.co.uk/gallery/main. ... temId=4013

Please note that this is a prototype and a number a changes will be made to the production version:

The model shows an SdKfz 7 steering wheel, the correct one will be included in the kit.

A number of fine tuning adjustments will be made to the sheet metal work dimensions to improve the fit.

The front mudguard is a prototype and will be replaced by a casting.

Mark is now busy working on the M3 and M16 versions and we will be post more pictures as soon as available.

Hi Gill

The M2 looks amazing :D :D :D

Cannot wait to see the pics of the M16 Quad when they arrive.

Will the sound units have movement and firing effects for the turret?

thanks

Doug

Excellent! The track system looks like it was made by Rolex and the rubber band looks nice and tight. Please can we have a snap of the track system with the whole vehicle off the ground as I want to see how the tightness of the rubber band looks then? I want an M2, but the sdkfz 222 takes-up all the space, maybe I will have to sell it.

Thank you for your comments.

Patrick, we will certainly take the photos you request but are awaiting a few more parts, so will be a week or two.

I have had a few enquiries asking how much Armorpax will be charging for the Quad 50 that they are making to fit inside our kit.

Although Dave Dibb has yet to do final calculations he is estimating it will be in the region of £250.00

half track in use

In the early 90s I had a real International Harvester half track for about five years and did almost two thousand miles in it - which equates to one set of tracks at £1k each!

It will be interesting to see whether the wear pattern is the same on the model - in real use the tracks try to come off laterally which leads to wear on the inner faces of the outer elements of both drive and idler sprockets as well as on the metal lugs on the tracks. Track tension is crucial.

The only major mechanical failure I encountered was the bearings in one of the bogies that completely fragmented leaving me running on the cross shaft. In the machine's defence I would say that the Israelis had stuffed a big diesel in it and my wife, following in a Land Rover, reported speeds of up to 55mph at times when the design speed is under 40mph. I had pressure greased it all 'til the stuff was oozing out of everywhere but even so...

I never did discover where all the brake fluid was going but with the Israeli fitted power brakes and steering it was a doddle to drive provided you got the double declutching right for the non-syncro gearbox.

Perhaps when I've got my Tiger I finished I'll have a crack at the Armortek half track - its been five years so far but retirement is next year.
