Its been a while since i last posted any photos of my tiger build, so here are a few shots to show were i am up to.
Started to paint the inside ready for the torsion bars.
Completed back end, I may re-do the Zimmerit as i think the ridges are to close together.
Completed front end, I think the Zimmerit is much better here.
I have also added Zimmerit to the front top plate.
I have reshaped the drivers visor and changed the angles at each end of the armoured block in front of the visor.
A general view across the front plate.
Some of the components ready for final installation.
Lots more to do yet but progress is being made

Looking really Good Steve. I think your zimmerit looks perfect front and back. Once painted it will be fine.
Thanks for the inspiration to start my Tiger 1 someday.

Hi Steve,
A really excellent looking build.
These huge monsters are far to heavy for me. Hard enough doing the
88 and 7.

Hi Steve
Looks awesome! Great job on the Zimmerit(and everything else for that matter). Really cool! Do you have a number for the tank in mind? West or East front? Just curious.
Thanks for posting the pictures and keep up the great work.
regards
Tim

Good to see you again yesterday, i will try the surfacer later on i think thanks again.
I think your zimmerit has turned out really well you should be chuffed with it.
See you in two weeks.

Hi Steve,
You have done great works on this awesome Tiger 1. Very nice looking!
Are these front and rear deck supports the Armoretek parts, or some customer made products?:?:
Thanks!

Hi Chang,
The supports are the Armortek ones modified to fit.

Sweet Steve!!!
No need to redo the zimmerit as it looks great, no pattern is equal as it was field applied if i can remember it correct.
I wish mine were that good applied
Keep it up.

Good looking build Steve!
As the Late Tiger I is one of my absolute favourites I follow this build with interest - keep the photos coming!
Freddie
No the zimmerit was not field applied neither on Late Tiger I nor on Tiger II.
It was done at the factory as part of the build.
The order for zimmert came in September 1943 after Kursk.
Main surviving battle tanks as Panther, Tiger and Panzer IV (note not Panzer III as it had become obsolete as battle tank) was to be coated in the field by its crew or maintenance unit.
That is why we see this rough zimmerit with various patterns in ww2 photos.
Every battle tank leaving factories after September -43 had factory applied zimmerit until new orders came in September 1944 to stop add zimmerit.
So the "zimmerit era" was only for one year
Cheers
Kent
