Late Production Tiger Project

Hi everyone

After a long long wait(and Gill and Mark's patience) I finally have my late Tiger project out of the boxes and in the very early stages of assembly. With lessons learned from the Panther project, this one will be much slower going. It's nice to finally have a Tiger I to build. I'll be attempting a Feb-March 1944 production, a very early production, late model Tiger I.

First step was getting the hull together to decide what needs to be done where. Before anything else, I wanted to get the rear plate prepared for the lower rear deck(to be built in the future). This way I can get the lower hull together and focus on all the details there. Thanks to all the Tiger owners who have gone before me for their great inspiration.

Off to a good start. I wish I knew about the rear deck height when I started mine. I was already too far along and did not want to go back and do all that work. Keep the pictures coming.

another interesting chapter begins,i wish i had built my mid tiger a bit slower,i missed and made some glaring mistakes,i,ll put that down to a practice run.keep the posts coming they are of much interest.

Hi Tim,

watching your effort to lowering the deck. The 5 mm gap at the rear is no need for. If you shift the deck fully to the rear you have tha gap at the front where a welding seam runs across the hull deck in the original with 5 to 6 mm wide. By fitting a strap of material uder the front deck you receice the needed extention and a place to put your welding bed in. Most of all you avoid the hassel to relocate the rear grills with all this holes to be drilled in the deck.

Thanks everyone.

Kent, "creative" LOL That's one way of putting it. If you look very closely, you can see your Panther links in there somewhere buried under Tiger fasteners and other debris. :lol: Actually they are in the orange Nike shoe box on the shelf.

Roland, thank you for the suggestion on the deck. Your gallery photos are just amazing. I plan on making a new rear section and new grill/guards using the same method as on my Panther. They will take care of the gap and address what Mike pointed out in his thread about the pattern being the same on the rear ones as well as some other things.

I worked on this minor detail today. I think my angle of adjustment is a bit wider then it should be but oh well. :roll:

Thanks guys

Added some things today to the front top plate before I focus all attention on the pannier undersides/support brackets. I still need to add the radius to the plate just in front of the fender hinges.

Many of these details will be covered with zimmerit but I figured I'd make the most of this build.

There isa some very nice detail being incorporated in this model, it should be stunning wen completed.

Some progress made over the weekend, Pannier bracket, rivets and welds added. I'm still trying to decide about what to do with the holes in the bracket. I'll complete the rest of the welds on the pannier's underside then finish cleaning up the hull fastener holes and texturing etc.

Hi Tim, your tiger seems to be progressing in leaps and bounds, and with fantastic detail as usual, I know this is a daft question but will you be countersinking the bolts on the hull bottom
