wiring problem

Post by Yves Maurice »

Hello gentlemen!..
Having some time now, I' ve decided to go on electronics about my 222...
I' m now on the bench and there is some problems....I have probably an old fuse box unit ( not the same as illustrated) so it let me in great troubles!!...So if someone can help me, I will be apreciate it so mutch!..
My fuse box unit have 11 leads in front of it, one unique led on the top and a red buttons on a side....
What is this red button? ( If it' s a button?!..)
What are the battery leads ?from right to left I have 2 possibility : the second pair or the 3rd? And , of course what is the right pair for the speed controler? My problem is the both pairs of leads ( speed controller and battery leads) could be inverted as there is the same terminals!...Can I plug what I wants where I wants without problems? Not sure....
Same problem with the switch unit!..I have 2 possibility to plug it with the fuse box : 4th or 5th pair of leads?
I have a 6 volts battery for the receiver supply and armortek tell on the book I need a 4.8 V, do you know if 6 V will works or not?
Is someone can explain in more detail how I can connect the receiver and the power supply for it? I think I have to plug something on the fuse box but what exactly?
Well that 's all my " hard" questions and hope somone can help me as I do not wants making a mistake at this stage!... :?
If you have some pictures, it will be nice also as this is more easy to understand...
Thank you in anticipation..
Yves
ps Congratulation Antony and Jeff for your works!..

Does your control box look like this ?

http://www.armortek.co.uk/gallery/main. ... temId=5827

If it does, you have the latest model of the control box, and the red button is the power switch. The LED tells you the state of the battery charge as well as whether the power is on.

> I have a 6 volts battery for the receiver supply and armortek tell on the book I need a 4.8 V, do you know if 6 V will works or not?

The new control box provides 5 volts for the receiver so you don't need a separate battery. If you're running a Benedini sound system, then the 6v battery is forbidden anyway as it would destroy the sound card.

On my M2 system, the battery connects to connections 1 (positive/red) and 2 (negative/black) - the first widely spaced pair.

The motor controller is wired to connections 3 (negative/black) and 4 (positive/red).

The next two connections (5 & 6) are not used, then there are two smaller leads with plugs attached which are wired to 7 (neg/black) and 8 (pos/red), then 9 (neg/black) and 10 (red/pos).

Conenction 11 is the 5v supply for your receiver - it should have a small flat two pin plug on the end of the lead.

Thanks for your quick answer Adrian!...
Yes I have the fuse box like the one you show me...Ok I will put the benedini sound system and so do not use the separate battery ( my god, you give me the info just in time!!!)....
Can you let me know what is the right pair of small leads to connect the switch unit? (7/8 or 9/10)?
Also I must connect the lead 11 to the receiver directly? (I have a futaba 6EX 2.4 GHZ )so I have to connect it on the B slot of the receiver?
Thanks again for your help as this is my first pace to the world of electronics RC!!...( very afraid to burn out something!!..) :?

I don't think it matters. The control box is only there to switch the 24V on and off to the connections, so either plug will do.

> Also I must connect the lead 11 to the receiver directly?

Yes.

> so I have to connect it on the B slot of the receiver?

Yes, with the red wire on the centre pin and the black on the outer pin (furthest from the aerials).

Also, always switch your transmitter on first, before the 222, and switch the 222 off before the transmitter, otherwise it can become a runaway

Having been in that situation, it was only a desperate grab of the back of the 222 which prevented it from sprinting straight through our double-glazed patio door, which was shut at the time :!: :!:

Thanks a lot Adrian!..I will try all that as you said....O yes , just another question: I have a 12 V charger so is it all right for the both battery (24v) When they will be in place on the vehicule?Or I must buy a new 24V charger or charging the both battery one by one?

I would recommend getting a 24 volt charger, so that you can charge both batteries at the same time. Look for one which will detect when the batteries are fully charged and then automatically switch to a trickle charge level.

I use an Accumate 12/24 charger for my tank batteries but the minimum recommended size is 9aH for 24v batteries so I'm not sure how it will take to charging the pair of 4aH batteries I have in the 222. I'm hoping it's close enough for it not to matter.

Well done :D :D :D :D

I still find the Benedini modules difficult to configure - they are easy to wire up but I still cannot get my head round configuring them to play the different sounds. I have bought one of Thomas's encoders for my transmitter but have yet to fit it but I hope this will make it easier to select the sounds.

I have also decided to return my TBS5 sound unit from my 222 to Thomas to have it modified to become a Sherman one instead. I will purchase a TBSMini for the 222 in its place.

Hello Yves,

As Adrian already mentioned it will be very difficult to find a 24 volt charger that will accept small 4 to 4,5 Ah batteries.
For that reason I use my 12 volt acid/gel battery charger to charge these small batteries. The sketch illustrates how to hook them up for 12 volt charging (battery capacity set at 2 x 4,5 = 9 A.) and 24 volt for use in the vehicle.

Yves, please don't let my comments put you off using the Benedini system - the actual connections are quite straightforward.

My problems came when I tried to configure the transmitter to play the sounds other than the engine. I didn't have time to fully work through the procedure to my satisfaction but I have no doubt it will work out in the end.

Hello Yves

The connections on the reciever depend on what system you have. What transmitter/receiver have you got?
The benedini system is one of the best and easyest to work on. Do be affraid. As long as it is wired up correctly. The pdf file can be downloaded from his site www.benedini.de
