Has anyone added a remote control switch to turn and off the main power of their tank? I would like the engine start/stop sounds to come from the tank without having to be standing next to it.

no matter which way you cut it there has to be a switch to turn on..whether its for the main power box or just a recevier to power a radio control device to turn on the main power box..I turn on the main power box..walk away from tank then use a toggle switch assigned to a free channel on my radio to turn on and activate sound module

Like Michael, my engine start/stop sound is activated separately from the main power switch through the channel controlling sounds. So when I switch the main power on, the engine doesn't start untill I activate it from radio while standing away from the tank.

That being said, I do have a radio controlled switch installed for my lights and it seems it would be possible to run the main switch through something like that??

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking out loud here; A manual switch would be used for to power the 5v supply to the receiver. The main power supply would be turned on remotely via a channel on my radio. A solid state switch would engage a relay that would supply 24v of main power.

I like the idea of other low voltage items like lights and/or machine gun sounds but each would require a separate channel.

Searching the net I found this robot site with some heavy duty components. The "R/C Contactor set" looks very interesting.

You can use a UHF remote switcher unit. I use the Hunter Systems Quassar 4ch switching unit. It has a small key fob with four buttons on it like a car remote locking device. I have arranged it to switch the receiver and sound sytem on one channel with the 24v on another channel, exhaust smoker on the third and animatronic man on the fourth. This way you can turn the receiver and then use the radio to get engine start up and also rev the engine without the tank moving. Finally you can turn the other systems on and off as you wish. There is also the added safety of being able to kill the 24v independent of the radio and touching the tank shold things go awry.

I found a few suppliers of the UHF systems. I didn't see separate channels with UHF, but maybe I missed something. What happens if a few people get together with similar controls?

From what I undeerstand with the Hunter System, each controller, handset has to be programmed to work with its receiver. It goes through a little sequence to set itself, so it is possible that several could work together. I would contact Hunter Systems and put this question to them, but to be honest there are so few of these systems and its so infrequent that many models run together that the problem shouldn't really arise. I was using my Tiger with the system at last years Armortek open day without a problem.
