Hi guys and girls,
I have just started my 2019 chieftain tank, just a few years behind you guys.

Before I get to advanced I wanted to start painting the various components.

My question is and I know it’s probably been asked 100 times but I am trying to get the base colour right so just need the ral colour for the period green that was used.

Hello Martin,
I am just starting too and have found the best match with my research is Olive Drab BS298 with camouflage in BS642 Night.
I have contacted Paul at Leonard Brooks who is very knowlageable and helpful and they supply Duxford and many other UK based museums.
He has also recommended etch primer etc.
I am interested to see what the ‘old Hands’ at this build say in response.

I am using spray (rattle) cans but plan to put the night camouflage on with an airbrush. I have never used one but I believe there is more control and avoiding sharp edges to the paint so it merges, if that makes sense.

I will be using both as well.A airbrushed is new Territory for me , however , the paint will have to wait as it's jolly cold in my workshop.
