Audio / Speakers ?

Is it possible to connect both speaker cable to one big speaker ?
Anybody done that? Got the red boxes for my Stug .

It's a stereo amplifier, so if you connect the speaker outputs together you will destroy it.
You could just use one output and leave the other disconnected.

Hi Björn,
I'm using one big loudspeaker (subwoofer) with two coils on its membrane in my tanks (in Germany so called 'double moving coil speaker'). This allows me to connect a 2 channel amplifier to one loudspeaker and get twice the power on it. If you would do it to a single moving coil speaker, you would destroy the amplifier.
IMHO it's not the best idea to use 2 small speakers instead of one big model, because a bigger speaker can emit lower frequencies, and this bass sound makes the essence of a tank noise. Therefore it is much better to use a single, but big speaker. Fortunately we have in our tanks no real stereo signal, but simple 2 signals with identical content. So we can combine these signals in one speaker.
Here you see such a subwoofer in my Jagdpanther, accompanied by two little tweeters. I'm using an amplifier with 2 x 100 watts.

IMHO people run their models too loud anyway. I’ve heard Tiger 131 running around at Bovington, and it always sounds remarkably quiet to me …..
An exception might be made for the main gun, though
if you could run that file on a separate channel

thank you for this impressive photo and your valuable explanation! I just started a Leopard built and am switching to a 1-channel amplifier with 500W of brutal force ... I am still waiting for my motion pack to figure out how much space I am left with to build something similar to your version in the JP ... it is my view (I might be BBQed on that) to get as much sound power in it as possible ... we can always volume down right ??

ok got it , Thank you then I keep my lay out at least I have two good speakers in there.
and yea real , jelaous off all off you with big tanks .

Hi Andre,
a large audio output power needs a powerful and big speaker, and a big speaker needs a big box around it for good sounding. This is a disadvantage of our models in 1/6 scale, because there is not much space to install such a box. Therefore I stopped my efforts at 300 watts. My colleagues with their 1/4 scale models have installed up to 2,000 watts, which can already cause some little pain to the chest like a real tank. A funny side effect is that the sound of these tanks can consume much more power than the whole drive! Of course we all use a stepless loudness control by R/C to minimize the noise when driving nearby or indoor.

Hi guys, I was thinking about this option for my Leo. I was thinking of 24v to 12v reducer connected to a 12v car amp. How would I connect the amp to the sound card.
The low resonance from a sub makes the main gun sound amazing. I visited the Armortek open day and a guy had a sub in his tank and when the main gun was fired you could feel it in your chest.
Not sure if there is enough room in the Leopard.

Steve McEvoy built an enclosure very similar to Gerhard's. The difference it has made is astounding. You really didn't want to be too close to it with the volume at any more than 10%.
All stock Armortek electrics and speakers, obviously removed from their frames, just with a custom enclosure.
From memory it sits between the motors and the rear deck support.

Any speaker will perform better in a box / enclosure. Adding more amplifier power will control the sound produced from the speaker. Bigger speakers go lower more bass and louder as a general rule.
My JT has 4x4” speakers in the back in boxes and an 8” subwoofer boxed all driven from 400w of power, and it’s far to loud for Chris Hall
Speakers without boxes perform badly, create an mdf box or even a baffle wall to keep the front and back of the speakers in different area”s. You can try it out by cutting a hole in a cardboard box and putting a speaker into the hole, it will perform a lot better instantly and be louder.
If space is limited just add a baffle/ bulkhead. Get creative it’s worth it.

With a Beier sound module you can give every sound file its own loudness in the Beier control panel (called 'sound teacher') without the need to use a seperate sound editor to make the sound louder or more quiet before storing it at the sound modules memory card.
At all my tanks I can control the volume directly by transmitter via rotary control; e.g. for indoor and outdoor use of the tank.

If the tank doesn't move my telemetry shows the power consumption of the audio system. It was surprising to me that the necessary volume needs outside three to four times more power than indoor. If there are some more models at the same time on tour the needed power is up to 6 times bigger than at single indoor using. Therefore a variable audio power by transmitter is very recommendable when visiting tank meetings.
