Loose gear on turret rotation motor

Hi all, I am fitting my Tiger motion packs. The mit and motion packs are from 2007 release late Tiger 1.

Almost done now but have a problem with turret motor gear. Motor works fine but gear appears to be fitted to it’s shaft only with an adhesive of some sort and appears to have come loose, so although it engages with teeth on turret ring it is just spinning on shaft. Surprised there is not a pin or grub screw.

Does anyone know what is supposed to retain the gear on shaft??

I've met a couple of those. I presume there was a supply shortage of bossed spur gears, so they made their own bosses in house.

Armortek should be able to supply a one-piece replacement. Or, once cleaned up, something like Loctite 638 should hold it together.

I would have more faith in a one piece replacement. Any idea of part no. of one piece item?

Latest motion pack instructions I have (2010 Mid Tiger) says CP0141. The same part number is also used on the Panther A but probably best to tell Armortek what kit it is for as the turret ring size may have changed between releases.

Interestingly, the 2010 instructions actually say "Fit the pre-assembled gear and boss to the motor shaft", so it was in use on that kit.

Would it be possible to braze the gear to the adapter? Not having seen one of these can I assume the adapter has a set screw or?

The gear looks like it is hardened; so brazing would soften it, I think.

I would drill a hole through the gear at a tooth base and the axis and apply a bolt. The bolt could be additional sticked together to prevent loosening. A full hard metal drill also fits a hardened gear. If the gear should not be hardened, I would cut a thread.

If it's like the other gears supplied in the kits- it's not hardened. Almost 100% certain. With that gear possibly being subjected to shock,
a hardened gear wouldn't be my first choice. Also if it's intended to be pressed on the clearance required for a hardened gear must be very precise.

A simple test would be to take a small, jeweler's file and take a scrape on either end, not a tooth please, and if it's possible to file it's definitely not hardened.

Brazing is the way to go; of course IMHO....!

Clean properly and follow the advice above. Allow 24 hours to set and enjoy years of use.

I had searched on google about adhesives and came up with loctite 638. Glad to hear you recommend loctite 638 also. That gives me some confidence. I presume originally secured with this but stored for years. I will clean up and try 638. Just to source some.
