Not easy to tell from the photos but looks like a four cylinder engine with turbo charger

And a brake band based steering system

you are right. Its an air cooled engine. Four cycle four cylinder, sideway camshaft, pushrods and overhead rocker arms. What a beautiful piece of engeneering is this set up ! It realy makes me thinking.

Thanks for posting these photos, very impressive indeed.

The engine is an OS IL 300, 4 cycle, should make an interesting sound, nice to see something else than electric motors for a change and some engineering work as well. Everythings so nice and shiny and the only let down is the braked differential which to me is a bad choice, he should at least opted for a Cletrac (braked differential).

I have assembled a very fine Tiger 1/8 scale, with petrol engine 50 cc. : a tragedy.
Difficult in engine running, gears was not hardened and was broken immediately; the operation with the gearbox is very sharp, not at all realistic.
I think that electric motors are much more better.
If you like I can explain better in Italian (sorry).

a snip at £1500, plus you will need a gear box, now if you were making an aeroplane this would do nicely

I know this is not so "beautiful" but saveing £ 750,00 is really interesting
As Alfredo wrote the gear box is the problem.
The gearboxes by Iliya Cerjak (see:
http://members.tele2.nl/s_weggeman/CT.htm)
seem to be not suitable for heavy tanks but only for 1/16 ones.
I agree with Simon: this is a challenge for for the engineers on the forum.
So I throw down the gauntlet to them.

Alfredo, do you have any photos of your tank and steering system, I would be very interested to see what it looks like. I´m sorry to hear you had some difficulties and prefer the elctric motors.

Petrol (gas) engine is a challange, especially the steering system and I could write about some of my experiences with my petrol driven 1/8 Tiger II if somebody is interested.
