I'm in no hurry Phil. Also can you have a look at the basic dimensions of the box for the commander's sight that I mentioned on the previous page. Can you check if you can work with those dimensions or do they need to be changed?

I will check those measurements tomorrow as well . I did measure the muzzle bore and depth but left it at the workshop, I'm under so much pressure lol. 8)

Phil

Here's the rifling insert using those dimensions you sent. It has 28 grooves and each groove is 0.5mm deep.

Chances are, due to the fine detail, it might not print properly with a filament printer.

I will give it a go, it's the cleaning up that will be tricky! 8)

The other option Phil is to send the stl file to a commercial printer.

Just now finished the commander's sight. I thought it would be a good idea to print the main body and eyecup separately. Then you can glue them together.

That looks good Vince, the periscope lower pieces printed ready for cleaning up and painting tomorrow. I have set the printer to extra fine for the rifling insert and it looks ok so far! 8)

Looks good but my kindle photo quality is not so good. 8) I would say successful! I will clean it up and paint and we can judge then.

Glad you are happy with the rifling insert. Did it fit the barrel bore?

Hello Phil, hello Vince!
Very nice parts for detailing.
A SLA 3D printer (resin printer) would be suitable for the periscope parts and rifling insert.

Yes Michael I agree that an SLA printer will give very good surface detail and finish. Infact if I ever get a 3d printer it would be one of those. More messy to operate but I think worth it.

Are you taking orders on the rifling sleeve Phil
Could be a nice little earner

Thinking out aloud painting the rifling a high gloss silver would enhance the cannon flash LED :D

Let's see if it looks ok first John, I have to pay for this printer some how, then there's the royalties for Vince! I should have it prepared by lunch time. 8)

The photo is not very clear but I think for a print in pla it's pretty good! I will take one with my phone and compare.
