had a go at making the various leather cases / pouches, made from leather and stitched where necessary, and are functional Regards Jeff

Very nice accessoires for the gun, it's coming more and more alive.

Fantastic work. Do you have a workshop with tiny workers producing these items? My sausage fingers could not stitch such small leather items.

thanks for the comments guys, Graham I also have large hands but use a pair of forceps to hold the small needle, Marcus I put the fags in the large pack
few more items completed, large canvas pack/rucksack for the back of the shield, canvas roll, and a pick axe with removable head so it can be stowed,

As the builder (I won't call myself a 'modeler' - that's reserved for artisans like you, Stephen White and others on this forum!) of the basic 25-pdr kit, I am greatly enjoying your 'super detailing' skills shown throughout this thread.

I'm curious about the Sight Clinometer leather pouch mounted on the trail behind the gun layer's seat (shown in one of your most recent images), as I've not seen it mounted in that position before, so I'm interested to learn about your reference for that, please.

Hi Michael, the small pouch on the left trail contains the fuze key, the Clinometer is housed in the holster shaped pouch on the right rear of the shield, (25pounder handbook)

Thanks Jeff - found it in the manuals after having read your post. I knew where the sight clinometer was housed, but was not familiar with another, similar leather stowage case to house the fuze key. Finally found an image of it mounted to the trail arm in a Canadian parts list.

Hi Jeff,

I just realised you mentioned the 'holster shaped pouch on the right side of the shield', which is for the Field Clinometer. I was actually referring to the Sight Clinometer, which is normally housed in a straight-sided leather case, similar to the Fuze Key case, mounted on the left side of the shield.

The kit comes with a holder frame which you have attached to the shield (as I did), which is where the Sight Clinometer case mounts.

On the 1:1 scale gun, the early Sight Clinometer case (a carry-over from the 18-pdr) had two brass straps that were riveted to the face of the case, and bolted on to the shield through the 'feet' of the straps, while the later version does not have the straps, and mounts in the frame as per the one supplied with the kit.

Hi Michael, thanks for the information, I had missed making the sight clinometer pouch, do you have a picture of the pouch or container for the fuse indicators, that was stored on the top right rear of the shield, above the dial sight.
a bit more completed, made the Apparatus, Illuminating, sights No5, that bolts to the slotted bracket on the bottom left rear of shield, made from steel with brass hinges, also made the two canvas bags that hold the barrel pull through' s regards Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The Fuze Indicator had a canvas cover and was held in brackets attached to the shield folding extension by two webb straps. I'm sure I've seen images of it in Tony Baker's build thread (1:1) on the MLU website (along with many other 25-pdr parts/accessories). I'll track the thread down and post the link here. The manuals I have show the brackets and straps, but not the Fuze Indicator or its cover.

Great job with the illuminator & its steel case.

From my notes of measurements taken of a 25-pdr displayed at Tiaro, in Qld, and posted on Tony Baker's thread:

"The No.20 Fuze Indicator (ie the slide rule) mounts are 690mm apart, and the top edge of the brackets are 18mm from the top edge of the shield. The right hand bracket is positioned 40mm inwards from the right hand edge of the shield.

The two footman loops are 125mm from the top edge of the shield, and the right hand one is 230mm inboard from the right hand edge of the shield. The Loops are standard 55mm centre to centre, 15mm deep loops.

The base of the bracket measures 80mm x 43mm, and the depth of the part that holds the Indicator is 20mm deep, 30mm wide. The brackets are held on by 3 rivets, round head type, with the round heads to the outside (front) of the shield."

Images of the brackets, footman loops and the rivet pattern on the outside of the shield are below. Of course, the measurements above need to be scaled to 1/6th.

The build thread for Tony Baker's 'made up' gun can be seen at http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/showt ... hp?t=25043 . There is a lot of guff in there that will be of no use to you, but if you persevere, there are quite a number of images of genuine 25-pdr parts that may be helpful. I have not found an image of a genuine No.20 Fuze Indicator canvas cover, but from memory it was a simple canvas bag, straight sided with a flap-over top & securing strap.
