After a brief interlude building Elefants I can now get back to the Panther.
I have bought a nice 3D printed partial engine and have spent the last week or so putting it together and painting it. A full engine was not necessary as most of it cannot be seen in the Panther installation (unlike the Maybach in the Tiger 1 which is much more visible).
Another advantage of the partial engine is that it leaves room to mount the speakers in the lower hull.

- The partial engine ready for installation

- Tannoy speakers mounted in the lower hull

- The engine in place above the speakers

- The engine deck fitted showing how little of the actual engine can be seen

- With one of the air filters removed more detail is visible
I still have the coolant header tanks and plumbing to add before the bay is finished.
Regards
Steve

Wow that engine looks excellent and nice placement of the speakers! Is that partial engine a kit from someone on this forum?
I'm so glad you are back on the Panther! I've missed your posts here. Best regards,
Bob

Hi Robert
Thanks for the kind words.
The engine was bought from CG-Model shop in Germany and is made by Guenter Gaebelein who is a forum member, His web site is
Panther-tanks.de and he has a number of very useful Panther parts available.

Steve

Excellent, thanks I will look into his site. I've bought parts from him before. I bought a set of his excellent early PZ4 idlers.

Exceptional work you have done on the Panther, the Maybach from Günter looks very nice and a great addition to the model, do the air filters have internals or is the casing solid.

Hi Mark
The filters are fully detailed on the inside and the filter element can be removed by separating the upper and lower parts of the housing.

To add a bit more detail and prevent the areas under the cooling fans and vents being empty I have built up a basic set of radiators, fan mounts and airflow diverters out of plastic card. These are just basic shapes as very little of them can be seen when installed, the fans themselfs are 3D printed and are a little more visible.

- The boxes during construction

- Red oxide applied, the fans awaiting paint

- The fans installed

- The boxes in position

- A view of the completed engine deck
Next job is the engine bay hatch

Steve

outstanding work Steve, the fans and air ducks add depth to the model making for a far more interesting model.

Finished assembly of Vincent's steel tracks and installed them, looks good!

- Overall view of tracks and spares, the extra detail is a big improvement

- Close up of the back end
