Hi Vince,

Here is a drawing showing the handle layout and other things about the cupola.
Hope it is of any use for you.

Kind regards
Kent

Thanks Kent. That's a great diagram. I can now work out the height of armoured periscope guard relative to other cupula components. I can also work out the angle of the back of the guard.

Repositioned the hatch arm U handle. Also made a hatch stop. Marked the periscope guards to be cut to give them that sloping look at the back.

Still working on the cupola periscope guards but not much to show at this stage. Today I wanted to do something different so did a 3D CAD drawing of the turret ventilator. I am still relatively new at this CAD thingy so it was good to brush up the little I have learnt.

It is made up from two parts which would be joined together. As I don't have the dimensions of the real thing, everything was eyeballed. On days like this I wish I had a 3D printer to print it and see how it looks.

I would like to add the two tubes in the cupola for the commander's rain cover. I am not certain what size I should make them. Has anybody else done these additions? I think they should have an O.D. of 6mm or 5mm for 1/6 scale but not sure which.

Finished the seven periscope armoured guards. Couldn't wait to get them etch primed. As soon as you touch them they start rusting. Blame the hot and humid weather here.
Used a tilting vice

Also added a backplate to each guard. On the front facing guard added another hatch stop.

Looking good Vince. I'm enjoying your progress. My periscope covers rusted quickly as well. Got primer on them as quick as possible.
Best regards,
Bob

Thanks for the comments Bob and Mike.

Mike, following what you said regarding the tubes, I have decided to use 4mm tubes.

During the last couple of weeks I have been on and off experimenting with painting the tools and today I decided to stop playing with them.

Not 100% happy with them but they will have to do as is.

Looking very nice, Vince, but you can throw away that pry bar. I don't know if it belongs on anything, but definitely not on a tiger. If you look at the 6th scale icons stuff, there is a pry bar for a Sturmtiger that looks right. I don't know if they had the same length, though.
Your model holds a very high standard and you want the pry bar to be correct.

Thanks for the comments Christoffer.

That pry bar is a 6th scale icons item and is advertised for a Tiger 1. I will have to check about it. Still, on a late Tiger it will be hidden under the mantlet.

Again, thanks for that observation.

a pry bar was indeed standard equipment on a Tiger along with all other tanks after all it was far more valuable to the crew than a spade think jammed tracks, removal of wheels etc though I'm not sure if the Tiger had a flat section or was completely round.

I'm sure the late Mike Stannard made it that way for a good reason.

Hi Vince,

Those tools of your is not 6th scale icons ones but Armorpax.
https://www.armorpax.net/wwii-german-parts

In my eyes I would only say ok to the axe and hammer handle, spade blade and the wirecutter.
The rest is not what they looked like IRL.
Mike got them pretty right (exept for his wirecutter).

Hi Kent

Thanks for your contribution.

Yes the tools are Armorpax tools which came with the kit but the pry bar I got from 6th scale icons as it was not part of the kit.

So what do you think of the pry bar? Are there any photos of the real one?

Thanks
