Vince I've just printed the first of the pointy rounds and that point is about as fine as you can go!

Printing update for vince , it's printing the dart projectile detail inside of the discarding petals! How cool is that.

There are a few odd ones and smaller versions from the GPMG mount to go along with these. Thought I'd better add something for the plugs to connect to hence the smaller plate.

It all depends with what Dave needs. I'm no CAD expert but willing to give it a go. A simple pencil drawing with some dimensions would help.

I will leave you guys to sort that out. Vince the long sabot round looks great ( so does the short ) if I remove the support in the Cura program it then prints the round correctly, the detail is there under that support shroud but you have to cut it away very carefully!

The sabot in the last photo looks really nice.

Vince, for someone who claims not to be a CAD expert you reproduced those pictures remarkably well.

Thanks for the compliment Kevin but the little I know in 3D CAD is all self-taught. It's what happens when one has lots of time to kill. In 2016 I was doing a summer contract for an airline based in Manchester and to pass the time I decided to dabble with CAD for the first time in my life and virtually build a model I was working on back home.

Impressive. Steam engines are therapeutic to watch, even in CAD it seems.

Brilliant work Phil, most impressive. I chap I know draws up and makes parts for 1/96 scale model boats/ships. Mineute radar arrays etc. Some purests see it as cheating but I see it as a new practical dimension of modeling. It's brilliant for boats because the light weight parts prevent heavily detailed models becoming too top heavy.
My preferences will always be metal on the 1/6 tanks where possible, I always like the coldness of metallic parts,
Touching the Bovington tanks where possible is a "thing" of mine. Cold steel, (they don't like it up em Mr Mainwaring!!!)
Which is funny when you touch Challenger2's armor, the best armor in the world, feels plaggy.

Thank you. If you can I think all I really need is the actual bowl of the searchlight as they are always an odd shape to craft. I'll see what I can come up with in the way of a sketch. If Phil could then print it I can clean it up and add the detail so it matches in with the other parts.

I agree totally with John, 3D printing is another extension to what we do and has its place, some parts I could never have done easily (If at all) without a little 3D leg up like the water jerrycan (Old school 3D milled) and then the oil drums and Pyrene fluted extinguisher. I use a lot of 3D printed parts on my railway stuff where I need one offs but still go for resin or metal where many are needed.

Looking at some stuff last night and £40 for a wobble pump in 1/24th scale as opposed to £30 in 1/6th resin and metal with the hose, decals and extras

I know I'm biased but I also like parts that were made decades ago by hand on jigs and work benches, sand cast etc. to be made by hand today as the slight imperfections are I believe what brings the pieces to life. I also get my kicks out of the actual making. I was a CAD draughtsman when I progressed from a toolmaker many years ago but I love making stuff and not drawing on a PC
