The engine deck, so much for getting on with the milliput! 8)

I had to find a way to be able to remove the rear deck without disturbing the front deck plate, so I have reversed the bulkhead and fixed that in place, then slotted the rear deck so that it can be slipped in place and is then held by the front deck.

You can just see the cylindrical spacers between the bulkhead and the main deck, these allow the bolts to be tightened against the bulkhead but leaving enough clearance to except the rear deck without damaging the paint surface.

I have taken the holes down as far as I dare with a flat bottom drill bit, this really needs doing in a drill press (pillar drill) or you run the risk of the bit pulling right through the work piece.

You will need to grind a 5.5 mm drill bit to form a flat bottom drill, almost a slot drill I suppose.

The "snorkel" plate is nice and thick so you can lower the square heads down flush, as they should be.

At this rate you are definitely going to finish it before me.

Whilst you are at this stage may I suggest fitting the turret turn bearing, spacers and gear to check if you have interference problems with the rear bulkhead. Most of us had to make slight modifications to that bulkhead.

Vince

P.S. As you said that you reversed the rear bulkhead than you might be OK.

As the engine will be on show and therefor the engine hatch would be open a lot of the time I need to detail the hatch inside and out. Would anyone have a really good photo of the inner hatch detail please? I have line drawings but no decent photo reference. 8)

Well Vince I don't think I do enough, I still have that milliput to do which will take days! The boss keeps ordering gucci parts to :D so I must plod on, we are discussing the full turret interior at present, that will mean a custom elevation gubbinz but sure would look cool, lets see, there's still a lot to do and I have not even looked at that beautiful Ivano Maybach engine yet! 8) I normally have Sunday off but have been getting other parts ready for next week....we love it don't we?

Will be interesting to see the custom elevation system. I am not doing anything in the interior so I will be using the kit supplied one and will be counterbalancing the barrel for smooth operation. So I guess no recoil due to the interior detailing.

Ivano's engine will be a project on it's own and it looks very detailed.

Loving this build! How did you replicate the 5 bolts on the drivers visor armour?
