Hello Phil, thank you for your reply, if you turn the turret over, there are three holes on the bottom base plate. they may not be used for anything in particular....I did not want to ignore them only to find later in the build I should have attached a part.
I will use an adhesive to fix the bass turret ring.
Your lifting lugs look good, I will try to replicate them.
Hello David, Phil is correct, you will need to file the pivots....I used a flat piece of rough/fine emery paper, and rubbed the pivots over the emery...it did not take long or much energy to get the pivots to fit. I used Araldite on my pivots and clamped them tight while it set. There is a photo earlier in this post.
The hardest part of the build was screwing the brass gun pivots in, my fingers are useless at times....Mick
3 Holes

Hi Mick
My 3 Holes are empty,so I dont know whether they are used in the option
Packs because I havent had mine yet
or whether they were some sort
of indexing holes used when the base was machined.
Either way I havent missed any thing so we will see what turns up.
Another possibillity is they are for the blank firer if you have had that option.
Cheers

They aren't for the blank firer, although I haven't worked out how to install it yet as the cross member for the turret cable seems to interfere with the unit.
The holes almost line up for the cable guide, for the motion pack, although the holes in the turret base are 290mm on centre while the cable guide is 300mm on centre.

Thanks for your answer to the turret base question, John, now, are the Cupola Hatch , and Loaders Hatch handles in the kit/accessories, or do we make these to suit....I can't find a handle type similar to Phil's.....many thanks Mick.

Hi Mick
I am fairly sure they are not supplied for the loaders hatch or cuppola
locking bracket/handle,so I made my own.
The cuppola brackets are just two small angles drilled for a pad lock, and
I used 2 x 6 mm flat to bend to size.
The loaders hatch has a different handle on each door, round bar on the rear
door and flat on the front one and positioned differently aswell,I used the
same 2 x 6 mm flat.
I think the reason for the flat one is because it rested on the loaders perry scope cover when it was opened.
With the flat handle I allowed for cutting two little pegs on the ends for
gluing into the holes I drilled.
I must have judged mine just right, because the Armorpax holding latches
fitted perfect in the right position
A good guide for the pictures and sizes are Stevens photo's"More Comets
at Bovington" the 1a and the 1b.
He has even used a check board on the photo's so you can estimate the scale,he tells you how many Centimetre the squares are on his posting.
If you are stuck I will measure mine and the positions that I estimated.
Cheers

Thanks for your answer, Phil, I will therefore leave these items and others like this ,until towards the end of my build....otherwise I will become bogged down with small details.
I want to continue and complete the bulk of the Comet build over the next few months, as I had intended to display the tank at our local vintage/craft/shows next year.
I am working on the turret so this issue came up. I have changed some of the cap screws for hex heads. I downloaded the A34 Comet walk around....very useful.
The only problem I have found is ,when changing to hex heads, I scratch my lovely paint job

Phil, just a quick question....I am fitting the ' Besa Armor to M/C Gun Ball ' ....the fasteners are, ( correct me if I am wrong ) M4 x 40 Cap.... these bolts look very long for this part....is there something to fit to the rear of the M/G Ball....Mick

Hi Mick
Yes they are 40mm cap heads, but I remember using shorter ones that I
already had,so they went in far enough but didnt fowl the Armorpax
machine gun parts.
Nothing goes on the rear unless you are having your MG move and using
one of the sets of MG's that Steve Winstone is making with a flashing Led.
Your Comet is coming along well now
Cheers

Hi all
The centre bar is provided to support and guide the turret sub loom and prevent it from being damaged by the ring gear. The installation is shown on page 11 of the motion pack instructions.
The fixing holes for the centre bar have been incorrectly drilled at 300 mm centres, they should be re drilled at 290 mm centres.
The bar is not required when the firing unit is fitted. When the firing unit is fitted the turret sub loom can be clipped or cable tied to the body of the firing unit to keep it away from the ring gear.
