This is one of the parts I've been working on this weekend:

This is only the 4th try and it's still not right. Steel and brass. Thankfully I will only need to use smaller bolts and dremel the holes a little more apart. The washers need to be thicker (the same as the sprocket washers). I'll need a bit tighter bend in the sight wire too.

Does anyone have a better picture of the label on the engine heater/blowtorch than this one:



Or maybe know what the text on the label should be? I want to make a decal for my model torch from Newthorpe.

Yes, yes, I've been negligent with my work in tank-land. I'll use the excuse that my wife is now expecting (a girl!) and has lots of additional house projects for me. I have less than 6 months to finish the King and the T34 when it arrives. The T1 will be a longer term project than planned.

So much to do, so little time... My poor KT is languishing beside the T34.


I got another hydraulic lift table so each tank has its own and I’m not trying to swap out one table between 2 tanks all of the time.

The motors in the KT leaked grease all over the front end of the hull (just like the real thing!). I removed them and will degrease the inside hull before I paint this week. Time to get this going. If it's not finished by Xmas it won't be finished for years!

Just ordered all sorts of nuts and bolts to finish the rear hull.

Thanks Tim. Hoping to get a good bit accomplished this weekend on both the KT and the T34. I'm basically going back and almost starting from scratch on the KT as far as painting is concerned. The welds and zimmerit WILL happen shortly. There's no putting them off any longer. I will need to make some weld tools and practice with clay before starting on the tanks.

The new end mills arrived today so some of those milling projects can start too.

Ten steps back...

Tore down to the hull and degreased it all so I could paint the interior white:



Changed out the kit spacers for 1" threaded spacers and csk screws top and bottom. This will give more freedom of placement of the batteries:

Does anyone know if the Saumur King Tiger has original zimmerit? If it is not original which KT out there has the best zimmerit to model spacing and ridge density from?

Hi Brown

I would look at war-time photographs of the Tiger IIs in the unit you plan on representing (if possible) to help determine the zimmerit pattern and/or look. A lot of good photos of Tiger IIs with zimmerit out there.

Working on parts I've put off too long, starting with the drive sprokets:






The center covers are pressure fitted in place for easy removal.

Modifying the exhaust armor and various covers. Also adding brackets and tools to the sides. Will post more soon.

Brown was kind enough to invite me over to his home Thursday the 29th. Boy, was I impressed. This is the first opportunity I have had to actually see one of these beasts and feel the thickness and weight.

Brown has a T-34 and a Tiger 2 under construction and a Tiger 1 still in the boxes. I have been a modeler most of my life but I have never seen one of these tanks and the level of detail and accuracy Brown is putting into his projects.

I am really anxious now to get my Tiger 1 late and get started. Based on recommendations from Brown I have ordered some additional literature and am looking at sites on the internet for parts and pieces, mainly accurate screws and bolts.
