What should the next Armortek kit be?

Hi Dale;

The Sherman is trailing a distant third after my Tiger and Panther. I'm so darned busy that I hardly have time for anything but work. I hope everything is going well for you on your build...

but it is time to debute the new Armortek T-34.

I wonder Gill, could you tell us whether you have a wish list on the office wall with all the hundreds of suggestions you have received - about future models I mean!

How many different machines are listed? How many times has each been mentioned? Are there any that are definitely excluded for any reason?

We donâ€™t have a list on the wall! But we do look carefully at all the suggestions received on the forum and by e-mail. As you will be able to see it is not easy to pick a clear winner. Also some people may suggest models which they may not actually be prepared to buy.

As for exclusions, apart from perceived lack of popularity, the only other reasons for not considering a vehicle would be complications of manufacture leading to us being unable to offer the kit at a commercially realistic price.

We will hopefully be able to reach a decision soon, and hope to please many although inevitable not all!

How abaut just running hulls? then if i buyer as limits on money he can carry on at his owm pace

The rest you can forget unless you're going to make them yourself

Not very clear if you're looking at making 50+ tanks

. I don't envy Mark or Gill making this decision. It's going to be very interesting.

I think there is some valuable info to be gained in your stats that is well worth looking at:

1.) I would say that "heavy" tanks are not popular right now....

2.) German tanks are still the most popular and viable offerings....

3.) And, its probable that price is going to make a "big" impact on how the next kit sells.....

Anthony - Thanks for doing this count up for us. This topic has surfaced regularly ever since Armortek first appeared in the early part of this century and I am sure that in the forum archives you will be able to find a lot more 'votes' to add to this score - if you were looking for a few days light work that is...

Another related topic that contributors might like to consider, with a view to assisting Mark and Gill as they plan ahead, is what adjustments/refinements/alternatives would be helpful. I am thinking of such general points as how tight should the tolerances be, where is the balance between cost and durability of running gear, choice of power plant, would getting an experienced builder to test build a prototype independently be a useful move...?

Any thoughts?

why not an internal combustion engine coupled with a gear box?

I can barely manage the complexities of an electronic motor, let alone an internal combustion one.

but that's just me.

King Tiger will be hard act to follow. No pressure Mark and Gill.

A Panther D would get my vote.

(But I still hanker after a Comet or a Centurion. Our Aussie friends might appreciate the latter).

Maybe for the future - I'd certainly be interested in a Panther next time round - but as Gill started this thread by saying "We want it to be something completely different, i.e. not a model or variation of anything we have done before" I don't think it will be the next model off the Haas machines...

Mind you, "the customer is always right"
