I was reading the operating instructions of the smoke module and it mentions the use of smoke oil. I was under the impression that Johnsons Baby Oil (widely available here) is used to produce the smoke. So I searched for smoke oil on Amazon and this is one of the results I got:

What do people use in the smoke module?

I use Johnsson Baby oil for my smoker and is very happy with it

Guys:

Is there a reason you went to 8-channel receivers rather then stick to the 6-channel?

I'm about to buy yet another receiver, this one specifically the Spectrum DX6. Before I do so, I'm wondering if I should go to the DX8.

Any advice would be welcome.

I went to check how many channels I am using at the moment for the basic setup. I am using five channels. So something with six channels should be good.

But then I said, what if I want to operate the Bosch light and convoy light? That makes it six channels. What if I wanted to swing the MG? Seven channels. The DX7 was discontinued so that this the reason why I went for DX8. Having said that I am still not sure if I will use the extra channels but at the time I reasoned that better play it safe and get the eight channel version.

Kian once told me that they use the DX6 but can't remember which one because there are the DX6, DX6i (discontinued) and DX6e and I don't know what's the difference between them.

Hello Vince, I have both Spektrum DX6 and the newer DX8G2. The DX6, 6 channels are used on my Panther, and the DX8G2 with 8 channels on the Rolls Royce. Very happy with both setups, the extra channels are useful for lights etc,. The Rolls Royce needs 7 channels, although you can manage with 6. The only gripe I have is with the new receiver AR8010T 8 channel. The receiver 'sockets' are extremely tight, meaning some force is used locating the radio lead plugs. I have heard other Forum members mention this problem. Other than that issue.....all works very well....You can use a 'Y' lead to fire two MGs from the same output....Mick'

That's about what I figured -- I'm the same way. Better to get one that can handle more channels, if you think you might later. Besides, you can program lots of different models into the one transmitter, right?

I'm working with Kian to see if I can figure out how to use the current six channel TX I have. Last resort will be to buy the DX6.

Funny you should mention the RX sockets being so tight. I thought so too. Rather than trying to fiddle with getting the male cables into the tight female sockets and out again multiple times (if need be), I bought some short male-to-male cables and have installed these into the RX sockets on a permanent basis. Thus, whenever I need to remove/install cables to the desired channel socket, it's a lot easier to connect to the 3-inch long cable extension.

Re-reading the 3rd sentence above, maybe we should rate this conversation "adult"...

Just leaving a note to myself which could be helpful to other 2017 Tiger 1 builders.

Following Adrian's advice on another thread (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7535) I managed to get Steve's MG to flash with the corresponding sound. The MG sound is programmed as sound No.4 on the TBSmini. By trial and error I found that using LED output No. 4 on the Audio module will make the MG flash. Lower pin is the positive terminal whilst the upper pin is the negative terminal.

Did the weld seams on the side skirt end plates. I will let it dry and then I will paint them.

Something that has been nagging me since I set the transmitter to single stick operation was which setting should I have used. Elevon or Elevon B? I set it to Elevon because that's what the instructions said. Maybe at that time the DX8 only had that setting but mine had also the Elevon B setting. Maybe because I kept the transmitter and receiver software up-to-date. The motors on the bench test seemed to be turning in the correct direction with the Elevon setting.

So today, with time on my hands, I bit the bullet and transferred most of the electronics to the tank as that is the only way to tell that the motors are actually doing what you want them to do. I am happy to say that every thing worked as expected, even the turns, with the Elevon setting. I guess it is beginners luck but who cares.

It was a good day. Put my mind at rest. Tomorrow I will paint the weld seams and play (drive) some more with the half finished tank.

After having fun driving around the hull in the workshop I showed it also to my better half and got an enthusiastic thumbs up. She loved it.

The instructions for single stick operation state that the top speed is reduced and tell you how to increase it again but having driven it around I don't think I will be doing it as in my opinion it is fast enough as it is.

Fitted the front mud flaps so the front is also finished except for the MG which is still on the test bench. I used 1.6 x 10mm bolts to fix the mudflaps instead of the 2mm pins.
