I once made this for a 1:16 tank, and I replicated how I created it back then

Image
I started with a square piece of T-Shirt

Image
Soaked in Panzer Grau primer

Image
Next step: varnish!

Image

Would be waaaaay too sticky so I used this trick

Image
And completely hardened the next day

Trying to add some depth by darkening the shadows

And lightening the higher parts with dust

Leaving the underside 'as is'

I wanted the jack to be a very nice detailed piece, so I started working on it, but instead of improving it, I felt it started to look worse... These were my steps:

Then I decided the way to go was to try some chipping. I was never very good at such small details, but hey, if people can do it on 1/35 scal...

Light chips first...

Some darker spots in the middle:

Nope. Not happy (yet)!

Hi Marco, forgive me if I missed it already but could you show me the tool you used for sanding?

Thank you,

Brian

Sandpaper, it's that easy. I also have some sanding sponges. Oh and since I'm lazy the sandpaper is on a sanding machine like this:

Time to work on my new set of tracks. They look like 1:16 tracks on two letter sized pieces of paper haha!

Just a coat of dark brown. I'm pretty sure wear will come naturally.

After the darker brown on both sides I also used a lighter color of brown applied randomly to break up a little - not shown on these pictures

I have a Dropbox account. You cannot directly link to a picture stored there unless you use a little trick:

Just copy the link of the image (right-click the file, select 'copy dropbox-link') and replace the last part of the URL '?dl=0' with '?raw=1' and put the image-brackets before and after. Et voila!

Just make sure you don't change the location of the pictures later. I have specific folders for uploads to forums.

Hi Marco, I'm enjoying your makeover. One thing on German tanks is the base coat was red oxide primer. So try the chipping effect with a small dot of red oxide then add smaller dot of steel colors. If the paint chipped it would expose a little red oxide under the dunkelgelb. All in all your jack turn out good though. :) Your hook looks the part well used!
Best regards,
Bob
