So now we know, the M3 Lee/Grant. A very interesting choice. Nice having the two options. I have to say it’s not for me, but I’m sure many folks will be very happy, it also gives many build possibilities. Again well done Armortek for keeping the variety coming.

Good to see the design has included the early style central roller bogies, rather than taking the easy route of reusing the skid/roller bogies used in the previous Sherman kits.

New track design too, by the looks of it. I wonder if they'll be (almost) solid rubber as per the originals ?

And spoked wheels ?

Two sets of recoil needed as well

Will people go for the Western Desert Caunter camo on the Grant, with the Lee in OD with the yellow stripe and star for the US tanks, landed as part of Operation Torch ? The Bovington Grant has an interesting colour scheme, but it would be a bugger to paint and outline.

I was chatting with Chris hall at Amiens 100, I would guess his wish for armortek's model has benn (excuse the pin) 'Granted', though I think he'll go for the Lee while i'll go for the grant to complement my still to be finished Desert Quad, 25 pounder (RAF Regiment) and Panzer III.

Really cool choices!

Somewhere I have a WW2 book called "Tanks are Mighty Fine Things." Kind of a propaganda book by, I think, Chrysler. If I recall, it features some very neat pictures of Lee and Grant tanks being made.

I'll try and dig it out!

Dug out the book and sure enough, some really cool pictures of M3's.

I will post here if you guys want or wait until Kian and the crew set up a new thread in Armortek models for these new kits. And post them there.

Did I mention.. Love these models? I've always been more of a Great War and artillery guy. But might have to get my first tank here.

Interesting picture. My understanding of this extra part on the end of the barrel was that it was a counterweight for the gyroscope stabilisation sytem as fitted to the british M3 Grant and the american M3 Lees never had it.

Interesting model choice. Looking forward to see those rubber track pads and spoked bogey wheels! I have too many models in queue to get one. But will be interesting to see some builds. The M3 is like the Churchill - beautiful in all its ugliness! The riveted plating will be fascinating to see. As will be all those guns pointing different directions. Lots of metal in one of these monsters. Will give the Africa PZ III's something to battle now!

Hi Mark, The 75mm counter weight was used by the US army too.

My reply to John Grimes note.

I disagree. My info is that the counterweight was fitted to early Lee & Grants because the stabilisation system was not fitted as it was still being developed. The weight being required to counter the weight of the breech, thus making it easier to move for re-loading???
Later longer barrels were fitted which negated the need for the counterweight.
