Dennis,
Could you use one of the 12V ATV winches? I see them available for $200, with 1000lb capacity? Perhaps something could be found on ebay? Where did you hide the batterys? In the ballast box I would imagine?

Hi Bob,

The working winch wouldn't be a lot of good as all it would do is pull the truck backwards plus the angle that the tank goes to when going up on the trailer plus you would have to free up the drive to the tracks too many difficulties I'm afraid.
The batteries as you can see from photo are under the tarp. We have two sets, which is good for ballast, the fullsize used to carry about 4 tons in the box, the main set (lhs) powers just the drive motors the aux set (rhs) powers the receiver, amplifier, lights and trailer ramp winch. We have a switch where we can change over from the main set to the aux set if the main set happens to go flat. The socket at the rear is for charging and the switch is to select which set of batteries to charge. The aux set came free with one of the mobility scooters we bought. Not very pretty but it does the job.

At half term we went for a trip up to Norfolk and took in the Muckleburgh Collection and was pleased to find that they have a big version there! This not perhaps the correct location, but there was a Centurion tucked away in a corner as well. Steve

The Muckleburgh Museum is well worth visiting, it is more than just a collection of vehicles. The is a very good section on the history of the camp and the local regiments which if we did not have teenagers in tow, would have kept us for much longer. The vehicle sheds were cold! so I would say spring or summer is best for a relaxed visit, and as everything was pretty tightly parked, a day when there is an event so the sheds are less packed and there is more space to walk around the undoubtedly interesting range of machines.
Plus Norfolk is well worth the visit!
