Armortek

Good morning Gary, this is my take on painting Armortek models, and one I have used throughout. Halfords Etch Primer on all metal parts, spraying parts as I build them. Epic Militaria camo spray paints. They are located in Aberystwyth and online. Weathering is great fun and a challenge.
Everyone will have their own favorite/brand and method. Lots of useful information in the 'Knowledge Base'. Enjoy you building .....Mick

I have just recently watched your builds comet, jagdpanther, and currently watching the Elephant build if I'm correct.
Forum has been very helpful already thankfully.
To be honest all I will do is prime the tank to be painted by a guy I have used for all my 1/16 tanks and he does a fantastic job.
I have used halfords paints in the past and to be fair they have been pretty good to be fair and reasonably priced.
And thanks for taking an interest in my build, hopefully all will work out well.

Hi All,

Wheels are still ongoing lost track of how much time taken so far.
Hopefully have them ready for priming In the next week or so.
Come across 3 Wheels that have a chevron style stamp mark on them which will need to be sanded back
And some of the wheels have quite a lot of surface corrosion on them not that it is a problem to be honest.
Enjoying the build, I thought I would have the tank up and running for around Easter time not a chance.
My wife's never been so happy with me out of the way down in the workshop.
Anyone else started there panther build?

Hi Gary, good to see your building progress. wish to start my Panther build soon once my 2nd term at work is done. Corrosion seems interesting the beauty of steel wheel? that is more true to the original. "My wife's never been so happy with me out of the way down in the workshop." ->

For me, Panther No.15 will be started once I have finished remodeling the workshop/garage and getting together some additional tool items.

New LED lighting and a new work bench with vice has been finished this week and a hydraulic platform lift and also a small motor cycle scissor lift also arrived.
I have a few additional workshop type items to get my hands on before I make a start but looking forward to it.

Looking forward to seeing how you go with yours though

I'm just about finished with assembling the wheels thankfully it's taken a while..
Corrosion on the wheels would be quite cool unfortunately you have to remove it for painting sadly
I have spent so much time down the work shop lately that my misses has had me build a conservatory next to the workshop to keep an eye on me

Sounds like you are proper tooling up to build the panther workshop shop wise.
I have just about finished building the road wheels, will post some pictures soon.

Hi All

Hopefully everyone is having a great Christmas, have managed to get some time to carry on the build.
Finished assembly of the wheel rims need to paint them then fit tires.
Building the wheels was a mission in itself.
I'm not entirely sure how much paint I will need..
Thinking of ordering 6 upol grey etch primer 500ml 6x 500ml halfords red oxide, and 6x 400ml fosco Dunkelgelb spray cans hopefully this will be enough for a good base to then send to the painter.
Starting to assemble the sprockets, both of the outside sprocket rings will need to be filed and sanding As they have machine marks on the faces around half a mm deep, and flash around edge of machined faces.
Keep me busy this afternoon.

Hi Gary, great work and enjoy your build! Just one thing, the paint you intend using is not the correct type. You need RAL 7028 which is available in the same spray can format from the same manufacurer MFH, Army Farbespray WH dunkelgelb matt. I get mine from Germany.

Hope you're having a cracking Christmas.
Thanks for taking an interest in my build been quite an eye opener to say the least.
The picture of the spray can is the ral 7028 is there a different version?

I tried the Fosco paint but, following Brexit, couldn't get anyone to ship it to France, so I use MFH from Germany. You can get it on German e-Bay. Here's what the can looks like and also on the model when dry.

I know you'll enjoy the build - my Jagdpanther was 2 years of fun!

Hi All

Sorting out the sprockets when quicker than I expected thankfully on filing, and clean up.
So now building them I've lined up the timing marks on the sprockets, however it looks like you just glue the M2.5X2 HEX to the outer rim..
Not so keen on this to be honest.
And do you use loctite on the other fixings for the inner sprocket ring?
No mention in the instructions just seem as bit odd, would have thought the vibration from the drive train cause issues?

Hi Gary, those look nice. Armortek like to leave most of the construction up to you since everyone does things differently. If you are only going to build your model for static display you might not worry about Loctite or glue strength etc.

If you are planning to run your tank hard and don’t want to worry about parts coming loose and won’t be checking things closely down the line then yes, use Loctite (blue)

For the outer rims regarding those hex bolts. I think they would look a bit funny with no screws there. Luckily I have a large supply of 2.5mm bolts I got on Amazon in a variety of lengths. Cost was maybe $10-20. I’ll probably fill those nuts in with a screw.

PS there is a good chance they give you the screws for those outer hex nuts and they aren’t in the drawing.

Also don’t forget to chamfer the sprocket teeth.
