Finally I can say that the front mudguards are finished. There was a hiccup when painting the topcoat of one of them but managed to fix it by sanding off the topcoat. Did I ever say I hate painting! Otherwise, quite pleased with the result and it was worth the extra effort. They are not perfect but "close enuf" for me. Quick test fit of one of them to take a couple of photos.

Hi Vince, I have to say those look mighty good!
I was just browsing eBay for ww2 items and stumbled upon this auction. Not buying just looking. Will cost nearly as much as a whole armortek kit. But pretty neat anyway. Nice pictures. This mudguard has excellent patina. I hope you don’t mind if I leave this here...

Actually thank you for those two photos. For anyone deciding to do there own mudguards, they are very helpful, especially the second photo.

Over the last few months I have been working on C-shackles for Tiger and Panther, these will lock in the centre as the real shackles did, I’m hoping to have them back from my caster soon, the pictures are of early castings so please ignore the pour plugs aas these will not be on later castings.

With the help of Dave (Armorpax) who sent me a photo showing where all the bits and pieces go, I assembled the jack. I made a slight modification to the opening flap of the bracket. I changed the original hole into a slot so now I can open the bracket more easily.

A couple of photos of the assembled jack.
Also, whilst looking at the Panzerbasics website (
http://www.panzerbasics.com/index_files ... t/jack.htm) I think that the jack is a depiction of a 10T jack. Not that many people would notice, but now that I know, it will start bugging me.

Fitted the rear reflector.

- Rear Reflector
I moved it down a little and used 2mm bolts instead of 3mm ones. I might change them to 2mm bolts with a one size smaller head. I also made a spacer that goes behind the reflector. I think the real ones were bolted to this spacer.
![Tiger 312.JPG (630.13 KiB) Viewed 2123 times Steve's reflector and my spacer](./download/file.php?id=18961&t=1&sid=87f0e5a59eeb44c9cc75c6f1290d1829)

I am toying with the idea of changing the screws which bolt the exhaust armor to the rear plate from 3mm to 4mm as 3mm nuts look a tad small.
![Tiger 314.JPG (594.76 KiB) Viewed 2123 times 3mm nut in the middle. The others are 4mm.](./download/file.php?id=18962&t=1&sid=87f0e5a59eeb44c9cc75c6f1290d1829)
- 3mm nut in the middle. The others are 4mm.
Still have not decided anything yet. What do you think?

Still haven't decided what size nuts to use for the exhaust armor.
I would like to bother you with another question please. I am looking for a photo showing the exhaust cap (top).
I am trying to find out if nuts or bolt heads are visible on top of the cap on the real thing.

Hi Vince,
The exhaust armour nuts are 48mm in size on Tiger 131 I think I used standard M4 bolts for this job.

David

From memory, the supports aren't threaded, which makes me think they would probably be made from round bar stock with a thread at the top, so more likely to be nuts on top than bolts.
Easiest way to cover the threads is to drop K&S round brass tube over the threads before adding the cap.
Adrian.

I would say the nuts are just over half the width of the flange, so the 3mm nut seems the better match.
Have you looked at BA nuts ?
These are the AF sizes for the available options, from M3 to M4:
M3 5.50mm
5BA 5.59mm
M3.5 6.00mm
4BA 6.30mm
M4 7.00mm
Adrian.

Hi Vince,
Hope this helps.
Please ignore the exhaust flap as it was not seen on Late Tiger 1
Kind regards
Kent
(I would go M4 on the exhaust guards)
