I have booked some time on the big milling machine to cut the recess in that mantlet pivot so the breech sits in the right forward position and the coax has a home, the loaders sight may be compromised due to the elevation mechanism.

You can see the elevation mantlet mount slot under the left side of the breech, this will need to be re positioned as far left as I can get it, im not sure what can be done with the loaders gun sight just yet but we should be able to squeeze it in.

The warming and straightening of the out of shape resin parts is a very important skill, this is one of the turret vision port covers which would not line up with its hinge.

As promised more progress photos, I hope to be on the milling machine after lunch and get that mantlet mount hollowed out to accept that 88 breech.

The parts are coming together now, you just have to identify a piece using the limited late Tiger photos as reference and plod on. More detail will be added to the breech when I am happy with the fit.

The new fittings drilled and tapped with grub screws to hold the de mountable turret basket legs.

A taster for tomorrows post. 8) To include one for the bosses attention. I'm off to a plant sale ( as in diggers and stuff ) tomorrow, they have a Chieftain bridge layer and a CET , that's 1/1 size....now do I bid if they are cheap enough?

Phil, I think that with the amount of detail you are putting in the turret, the elevation mechanism is really going to look out of place. Just my opinion.

Glad they arrived but I am not sure that you needed the heat a wash with degreaser and they go rusty in just plain water?

I like my accelerated version Liam! Vince you maybe right but it will be bolted so if the boss wants to remove it then he can, more photos from yesterdays work.

That elevation mech is not so prominent as it kinda gets lost in all the myriad of parts, I may make a simple shroud to cover the motor further.

Now everything is bolted to the turret, this allows me to remove the unit to add detail, paint and weather those parts as there's not much room in there. It just shows you the restricted space that the crews had to operate in, even in a relatively large tank like the Tiger 1 the fighting compartment was in no way spacious!

Looking great Phil, I'm sure it's about this time you wished Dragon or the other figure suppliers didn't just supply 6 footer's.
when a lot of tank crew would have been a tad bit shorter. :D

Phil, when you machined that lump of aluminium that is attached to the back of the mantlet to reduce the space between the mantlet and the turret, how much space did you end up with?

At the moment I am doing the same and have reached a distance of 2mm between the mantlet and the front of the turret.
