I can hardly believe it! Actually found time finally to sort out the Tiger's turret roof and add the first welds. The spare link carrier welds and cupola weld will be next. Then detailing the mantle.

For the moment it is "semi-fixed". On the Panther, I was accessing electronics though the turret all the time. on the Tiger, I can access them quickly by removing the rear deck assembly. Also, I was contemplating the blank firer going into this model but think I will save it for the King Tiger....maybe. With the push to get the Tiger completed thought I'd just get it on and welds done. I did add a perimeter ledge like Dale had done on his.

Tank is looking amazing, The detail is just mind boggling.

I have a question about the welding and zimmerit on the tank, Is it pretty durable on the tank and not break off? and does the welding help give the tank a waterproof seal along with authenticity when painted? I am awaiting my first Tiger 1 tank and haven't really done any modeling in the past. I was originally planning on keeping it a metal look but after looking threw all the tanks, I'm thinking i want to give it a paint job close to what yours is now, full army green colors without camo.

Any information you can give is much appreciated

Thank you for the nice comment.

The zimmerit I use is not as durable as a milliput type material that many use. Paul Morris' models are a good example of that. The meaterial and method I use is fast and easy (two key factors for me) Here's some comments I made awhile ago regarding the zimmerit. It's durable enough for me but maybe not for others. The Panther has held up just fine for 4 years.

For the welds, I use a product called Epoxy-Sculpt. It cures rock hard and is super durable! I tried using it for zimmerit on the Panther but was unsuccessful achieving the look I was after. Would have taken me months to finish the zimerit too!

Here is the first step in final paint. With a mix of darkened base color, every corner and detail is given a wash. Don't worry about being neat, it will get toned down before it's through. Every time I do this, I start too light and need to come back with another wash in areas. The Tiger is no different as I'm just too timid. The same thing will be done to the hull sides and wheels(hopefully tonight).

The idea is to give edge definition to all the details to really bring them out.

Last night I started, and almost finished the road wheels, lower hull and pannier on the right side. Some minor scratches and bolt touch-up to add and maybe some grease. Once everything is finished, it will receive a dusting of dark earth.
