Kit
Hi Nick
There is a list in the Comet book of what was carried in each
bin, which I am trying to follow.
I've been making 3 tool rolls today and started on the spanners
to fill them.
Funny you should meantion a brew, they carried 2 portable
cookers, but I dont know what they looked like then,or the ration box's and biscuit tins.
You can get plenty of US or German Kit but British Kit is a bit
sparce, just have to look out for pictures and make it.
Cheers

Hello again Phil, I am trying to purchase a further steel towing rope that came with the Comet Kit.
As the Comet in the 1945 'parade' picture shows very little add-ons, this is all I now need, any idea's.
I am now making up a display board to show the Comet off. it will be on the motorcycle trailer I converted. I will of course run the tank, and demonstrate the various 'sounds' etc,. It sounds awesome with the sound turned up. Looking forward to the Summer months.
I came to apply the 'decals' only to find the name IRON DUKE 1V, was to large, I forgot the spare tracks, when I measured the turret. Lee at the model shop is making up a smaller set.
Have you added to your crew yet, and did you do anything about the internal lights....Mick

Hi Mick
Have you asked Gill they normally have spares for the extra
towing cable,it would be quicker and exactly the same.
I've got 2 more crew but they are exused work duties untill I get
their pixie suits sorted out.
Yes I've got 4 internal lights in the turret,I need to do my recoil
system before I can do any more detail inside,so I can see how
I can disguise everything into looking like the book.
I am wating for my part to be made to attatch to the Comet barrel
and slide in the pillow block bearing I found.
I have got my electrics sorted out and planned, but I need all the
bits present before I start to fit it.
I will be taking photo's of each stage though.
Cheers

Hello Phil, that's a real beauty....I just hope my Comet looks that good.
I have received the extra steel tow rope from Armortek. I have started to apply the decals....it's amazing how it brings everything to life.
Phil, have you run the Comet outside yet ???. All being well my son will be over for Mothers Day....so, down off the table the IRON DUKE will descend...and into the west.
I am itching to run her. Any progress on the 'recoil'.
I have been trying to find the item you posted regarding the internal lighting?? I think it was early in your build.
I am about ready to send the 'forms' away to the various events I will attend. The 'Vintage shows' are very interested in the Comet, and looking forward to the display. Almost all of these Vintage type shows have craft and hobbies sections.
I will post a photo when I have finished the decals....Mick

Comet
Hi Mick Look forward to seeing your photo's when your decals are
on the Comet.
No my Comet hasnt been on the deck yet,I am still waiting for the
part that I am having made for my recoil.
I have the big Futaba servo and a Turnigy like Robins set up and
also an extra receiver just to use an extra 6 volt battery for the
servo.
I have my wiring diagram sorted out with an extra timer so I can
get every thing in time with the right delays all adjustable, for
flash recoil and hopefully smoke.
I will be able to operate it all on my switch G and VR knob.
The linkage to the servo,I will copy Robins or Adrians when I get
my bearing block fitted for the barrel recoil.
Everything depends on me finishing my recoil so I can see what
detail I can put inside the turret, thats why I havent put any photo's
on yet of the 4 light that I have fitted inside the turret.
Cheers

Nice touch with the interior lights Phil
I've sometimes wondered how much light would be visilble outside a tank and whether it would be worth fitting them. - I assume the interior lights would be on pretty much all the time
Then again, I suppose these models don't get used in the dark all that much
Adrian .

Lights
Hi Adrian
I have wired them in to the same switch as my search light and on
a seperate battery.
I would guess that the lights got a lot of use in the full size Comet.
I have got some spare capacity for an led for the drivers
compart ment which I might put in.
No laughing please, but I have fitted some of the parts of those door
viewers in reverse as my Gun sight.
It works like a telescope in reverse so you can see the glow from
the lights and I was hoping to put detail like the radio's at the
back of the turret which could be seen,or maybe just the face of
the gunner
Cheers

Sorry to p on the the party gentlemen but in action the last thing you need in a tank is the interior lights on. All the crew drills are practised until they can be done by touch. With the Comet generation of tanks, the only things that would have needed a hooded torch were navigation and tuning the radio. The reason the interior lights would not have been used is that the episcopes act in reverse and allow any interior lights to be seen outside. That is not to say the lights might have been used sparingly out of contact.
It was a real no-no to use lights and indeed many crews used to remove the bulbs.
Regards
Stephen
