DX8 advice for new to RC

That all sounds exactly as it should be. Can you put a servo on the receiver to check that the receiver outputs follow what you are seeing on the transmitter monitor ?

I don't know if it's possible with the new motion pack but it sounds as though you have the motors split between the two outputs on Module A, rather than each going to a separate one. That's the only way I can see that the motors would work in only two positions of the stick.

Can you trace the blue and yellow wires from Module A and make sure they stay as a pair to each motor ?

Hi Adrian, both motor wires are in their pairs. I am going to strip it all out and start again, it should be a simple installation with everything plug and play but for some reason this is not being so.
It’s strange that one minute it’s right then the next it’s gone tits up!

It ain’t going to beat me though.

I have noticed that there is a bit of wear from the tracks on the drive motor covers.

On the dx 8 at the moment

Model type - aircraft
Aircraft type - wing elevon, tail normal
Chan assign, thro is thro, ail is right ail, elve is left ail, Rudd is Rudd, gear is gear, aux 1 flap, aux 2 Switch G, aux 3 switch F
Frame rate 22ms
Servo setup travel ral and lal 133

When stick is moved up the boxes Ral goes down and Lal up when stick is moved down Ral goes up and Lal down, when stick moved
EFT both go up when stick moved right both go down.

I have tried resetting the aircraft etc and reprogramming but it stays the same. It’s like the whole stick unit needs rotating 90 degrees clockwise.

I haven’t been able to find the factory reset on the dx8 either thinking that may solve it.

That sounds right but you need to reverse the RAL channel, then it should behave as you expect.

There isn't a system reset as such, but all settings are stored under the model, so deleting the model will clear everything.

If you make a new model, you will need to bind the receiver again.

Ok, have changed the reverse switch for Ral and on the tx it is S it should be but on the motors the following:

Stick up right hand motor drives forward left does not move.
Stick down right hand motor drives reverse left does not move.

Stick left then left motor drives reverse right does not move.
Stick right then left motor drives forward right does not move.

The tx is spot on now though

Sounds like you now just need to enable channel -mixing by selecting Wing-type Elevon. If moving the stick forward then causes the tracks to go in opposite directions, reverse one channel. If after that, both tracks go in the wrong dirction, reset the channel you reversed back to it´s original setting and reverse the other channel.

Hi Mark, it is on elevon, I have the tx set up as described above and the stick works in the way it should on the monitor.

The motors module a and power unit as per Armortek instructions.

The issue is that the motors don’t do what they should. Up and down operates the right motor and left right the left motor.

To get it going forwards the stick has to be in the NE position and for reverse the SW position so it’s like it’s out by 45degrees clockwise now.

I wouldn’t mind but when I first bench tested everything it was great, put it into the tank and it’s all gone Pete Tong.

Hi Andy,
you have proved that all channels and motors are working. What is not working at the moment is the channel mixing.
I would suggest setting it up as a new model according to the guide http://www.armortek.co.uk/Forum3b/viewt ... 7cc#p49290 and report your results after that. I and others will then have a base-line from which to work with when providing assistance.
HOWEVER before trying that, try setting wing type to default or normal, I recall seeing posts on the forum suggesting that the new electronics from Armortek possibly integrate channel mixing as standard. If that is true, then you will be negating it by selecting Elevon.

Here goes.

I set up a new model as per above forum instructions but left the wing type as normal the following happens:

Stick to the left then both motors drive forward.
Stick to the right then both motors drive reverse.
Stick Up the motors would turn vehicle left.
Stick Down the motors would turn the vehicle right.

The above is as if the stick is 90 degrees out.


I then set up a new model as per the above forum instructions with the wing type at elevon the following happens:

Stick up then left motor only goes into reverse.
Stick down then left motor only goes forwards.
Stick to the left then right motor only goes forwards.
Stick to the right then right motor only goes reverse.

To drive the tank in a straight line you would have to use the stick diagonally.

Mark, when you have tried reinstalling things for as long as I have and with the wiring it’s great to have someone else look at it (so to speak).

As soon as I read swap the wires over on the rx! . I have used the top programme and swapped the wires over and hey presto. I could blood give myself a slap... just go so focussed on the tx and what I was seeing on the monitor.

I will do a full run through tomorrow and see if there are any other issues, but for tonight, I thank you

Add module a and bench tested motors great add audio and works a treat. They are working as they should at this point.

Add module b and I do get turret turn and barrel elevation however the track motors stop working, still have sound though.

When I add recoil, the servo motor starts straight away and doesn’t stop. No flash and sound though.

The turret motor has a mind of its own, one time it works correctly the next it moves slowly at switch on, turn off and on and then the next fast at switch on.

I have got the batteries on charge so will see what a full charge does.

Kian will need to advise as this has been a known issue, for which there is a simple fix, but it's a destructive fix, so if that isn't the problem, this solution creates a problem which wasn't there before. If that makes sense...

Which recoil system do you have ? Snail shell shaped one or just a servo and arm ?

This might be related to the issue mentioned above.

I am not knowledgable about the new red box electronics but do recall reading a post on this forum mentioning that the receiver should only receive power from either module A or module B and that some were sent out with unmodified cables causing the receiver to get power from both and causing problems. Unfortunately I cannot find it again at this time.
As Transmitter / Receiver, Module A and motors have now all been proven to be functional and correctly set, and Module B also seems to be working correctly ( although it screws up Module A ), this would suggest that unmodified cables are the cause of your present problems and I would not suggest changing any transmitter settings at this time.
