Hi all,

Bob//
That is a mighty fine offer and I am sure Vincent will find your drawing etc very helpful when/if he concider making the Late Tiger1 links as well. I know there is a demand of such out there so time will tell.
Must say you are a very very lucky man having that Tiger1. In my eyes the finest build ever of a 1:6th Tiger1, just look at those tracks absolutely stunning, blow my socks off!

Vincent//
Links and a pm sent.
Please keep us posted how things develop.

Per//
Thanks for those kind words. Sorry I have not that sprocket measure but will try dig it up but my (sometimes well so rivetcounter) eyes say we can live with the sprockets as they are beside beveled the teeth. Nice with steel sprocket rings, wish I had more tools then Mr Dremel... :D

Kind regards
Kent

Hi all,
I am new to posting and contributing to topics.

This is a really interesting topic and it is something that I have been working on for my early Tiger 1, and I think I might have the track links for the early Tiger 1 organised. As this subject has become a popular discussion I have taken the hesitant step of revealing my experiment.

I haven’t put the finer details into the design yet because I felt it would be wiser to see if and how the links performed as the history of this subject on the forum suggested the steel links are not so good. Rather than go to the expense of the detail and then find out that it was a total disaster I decided to start with a basic shape.

The links are investment cast and the rusty one in the photo has been out in the weather for the last 4 months, (that is inland Queensland, Australia weather, not much rain as our winters are our dry season, just some light winter dew and plenty of sunshine). I’ve also designed the pin locks so that they can be provided with disk and lock.

I hope to finish testing in the next month or so by running these on my tank. More refinement of the finer details in the design is to be done.

Cheers,
Liam

Vincent,
If the track tests result in poor performance, I still think making these links would be a benefit. They would be superb for mounting on the hull. Additionally, have you considered making them out of high grade aluminum of the same accurate detail?

Bill

Hi
This is how I made mine, saves a lot of turning from solid.

When using heavy steel tracks you have to angle the centre torsion bars down lower than the rest instead of the end ones as you do on ally tracks. Having more pressure in the centre allows for easier turning as these heavy tracks really dig in. It's how real tank suspension is set up and gives the start stop rocking motion you get on tanks.

Steel would be better or if you wanted corrosion protection stainless steel, brass would wear very fast
