Hi All,

I'm back again with a few more upgrades on my Limber kit.

Following Marcus lead on his excellent work on his Buffer Springs made out of Brass. I had a go at making separate springs out of aluminium strips which worked out real well and added them to my limber kit.

As usual on my ever ongoing research on the limber I noticed that there was a part I did not recognise that sits below the right hand door at the back of the limber which Dave of Armorpax has on his limber kit!….(see the pic and my drawing below). This part looks straight forward to make one for myself, but if someone could tell me what it was used for on the limber!…just want to know!!
Also I noticed there was two rubber stoppers that sits just above the foot pedals on either side of the limber at the bottom.
Another few parts to add to my upgrades for my limber. (see drawing below)

Cheers
Ian

Hi All,

Well I'm back with my never-ending upgrades for my Limber kit! But that's all right I don't mind finding new parts to add…….

This time I turned my attentions to the limber foot pedals, seeing I made, added springs to the buffers I made some more springs to add to the limber foot pedals which stick out beneath the limber box on either sides.

Next I will have a go at making some rubber stoppers that sits above the foot pedals……

Cheers for now
Ian

Now THAT is inspiration!! Added to my to-do list!!
The 'foot pedals' are actually stoppers to prevent the limber from toppling over; the tow bar is not heavy enough to stop the limber of falling on its back(door)side!!!! That is why they are equipped with leaf springs.

Cheers,

Marcus

………….sorry chaps if I keep finding more upgraded parts to make, to add to my never never ending Limber Kit!……..Making your to-do list even longer…….The Devil is all in the details!!!…….good or bad or otherwise!

Thanks Marcus for explaining what the 'foot pedals' stoppers do to prevent the limber from toppling over!
I'm pleased with the way the leaf springs have worked out, even thou they will be kind of hidden behind the wheels, makes it all more real in the end!

Thanks for giving me the inspiration on creating my own buffer leaf springs…….after seeing yours made out of brass!….which lead onto the foot pedal springs…..

Go on Dave you know you what to "rework" IT!!!!……Leave the painting till later on!
And not forgetting your upgraded parts you have created for limber kit, makes it even better looking too.

Cheers

Ian

Hi All,

Just a little update on new upgraded parts I added to my limber kit.

Turning my attention to adding some more parts that are near above to the foot pedals at the back of the limber.
Not sure what they are for but sticks out behind the back of the wheels curving around the tyres on each side of the main body of the limber.
Maybe someone can tell me what they are for?………
Anyway went ahead and made a pair out of aluminium, also created out of aluminium a pair of elongated block type shape to support the curved bars that sticks out between the tyres and body of the limber.
Then made a pair of rubber stoppers that sit right at the corners, directly above in line with the foot pedals.

Perhaps Dave of Armorpax can add his own version on his limber list of what I have upgraded to add to my limber.

Just love adding all Dave's limber upgrades and a few more upgrades of my own to enhance the Kompact kit.
Brings the limber kit alive, almost like the real thing!

Cheers
Ian

The curved and profiled (teethed) strips are to scrape mud from the tyres to prevent mud build-up under the wheel covers. On most limbers I have seen they are not present. A lot do however have mud flaps, either fabric or thin metal.
Also possible they were present but were obscured by the same mud flaps......... Time to re-examine my photos!

Cheers,

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for enlighten me on the use of the curved teethed strips, I thought of that earlier on today, thinking they might be for scraping off mud from the tyres to prevent mud build-up.
I've yet to make my mud flaps to add to the mudguards, even if they cover the other parts.

But thanks anyway, until next time……

Cheers

Hi All,

I'm back with a little bit more done on my limber kit.
Finished making the flaps for the mudguards and put some of my completed parts and upgrades together.

Also improving the look on the limber tyres, by getting rid of the middle raised rubber ridges and sharp edges on the tyres too.

So far so good.

Cheers

Hi Doug,

No I did not make any of these castle nuts, I bought a few from Steve Winston a few years ago.
Sorry I cannot remember his web-site at the moment, but he's your man for castle nuts etc.
Not sure if Steve does them different sizes!!
I used these big one's on my limber spring bars, although they are not the correct size, should be much smaller in scale with the originals from what I see on pics of the limber.

And might change them for smaller one's if I can buy them again from Steve myself.

Cheers
Ian
