From the book and the pictures it seems they "just gave up" with the feifel system. Maybe because orf the constant damage. They didn't change the engine filter system until the introduction of the KT and the Panther. The filters on the HL230 p45 stayed the same right up until the end of the TI run.

The feifel system fed into the engne compartment. The engine than got it's air from the engine compartment. When going underwater the point where the feifels went into the engne deck was closed by a plate which bolted over the rectangular inlet. The snorkle than supplied air to the engine compartment which, again, than went through the engine filters to the carbs.

I would love to see the inside of the Panther and KT filter system. I would bet some of the particle seperator concepts are employed there.

However, I am happy that you chimed in. I have been trying to find pictures of feifels being used after September 43 builds with them but I have had no luck.

I don't meant to be nit picky, but I was under the impression that you were building a late '42 TI. If you are doing an Oct '43 you may want to consider changing the RH plate under the engine bay (depends on how much of a rivit counter you want to be) The HL230 P45 had a rectangular cover there (replacing the circular one)

The Jentz and Doyle is invaluable in this regard, though I think the modeler's guide has this too.

Hi Rocky,

regarding the small metric bolts I'm using the ones in the kit or from an internet shop for modellers here in Germany. Also the bolts with cone heads or the bolts for the side pannier ( flat with surface after installation ) are my own mod from normal metric bolts of different head design. All you need is a lathe to cut the heads to the design you want.

Since you now have contact to Brian may I recomend you ask him for suppliers of metric bolts in the States. He is a very clever guy and is able to assists regarding technical solutions.

I am doing an early Tiger, Nov or Dec 42. I was just whining due to some of the mods that I have to do mainly the pistol port.

If you of some good suppliers of metric bolts here in the states, please let me know. The only supplier I have used is small parts.

At least you only have to make one pistol port and you don't have to plug the escape hatch!

Gill has an amazing wi.. err, - parts cellar with items from previous production runs, such as the early Tiger a long time ago. She's not very proud of them as quality has improved over time, but judging from the photos, the pistol port is not a total disaster. Not anywhere near Roland-quality, of course, but close enough for me to place an order. That's an option if you feel you want to spend your last energy getting the grates right, for instance. Gee, I can't imagine how one's supposed to make a right curving grate into a left curving!

Thanks David I had completley for gotten about them. I used to buy a lot of fittings and things from them when I waster cooling computers.

Hi Rocky and all new Tiger builders. Since Rocky was asking for modifications for the rubber tire Tiger ( all early and some middle ) I had a remembering on the wheels. Those Tiger had been fitted with center wheels where the two tires are close together not as in the kit. Now in this early stage of building the Tiger I there are probably some builders like to reproduce the wheels as they have been originally. Sorry for stearing this up. Just an idea to complete the list of mods.

Those nwe wheels are a complete new build. Some effort but on a lathe it is not too difficult.
