Hi Adrian,
Have you found a new supplier for the rotary switch ? Cost ?
I assume you have the resistor values etc, if not I will email circuit.
Dennis.

This is a Grayhill one from CPC which cost £7.18 plus vat.

Many thanks Dennis and Adrian for the quick answer. All clear, even I could follow. Dennis, plug A goes to a rotary knob which I assume can be assigned to a proportional channel (6 = Aux 1)

Dennis, I have the ladder circuit from the TBS Mini manual, which I'll be using for the rotary switch. I'm not sure why R6 is 820R though, rather than 390R as per the rest.

Hi Adrian
The 820r resistor is there so no sounds are selected at the null point, otherwise you would have a sound playing constantly.

But with the toggle switch, no sounds are played anyway
I can see you need a central null position if you're using a stick to waggle back and forth but every step in the chain for the encoder has equal significance, so it would make sense to me for all the resistors to have equal values.

Meanwhile, back in the electronics Kindergarten....
I've connected the encoder to the leads for the one rotary knob on the DX7, Knob R, in the approved manner, red to red, orange to white, brown to black. I've tried Channel Assign on the Tx to assign each of the three "spare" channels to Knob R, ie the Gear Channel, Aux 1 and Aux 2. I get the same result with each, which is the servo twitching on the first two positions and the fourth position but not turning incrementally with each position as it does on my Futaba installation. What have I done wrong? I'm stumped.
The lead from the Tx circuit board for Knob R has the white control lead in the centre. I've routed that to the corresponding orange lead on the encoder, which is on the outside. Could it be that Thomas has the control lead in the centre too? Help please!
Stephen

hello, I find the best way to do this, is through my MAN, Dennis Jones, always works!!!!!thank you Dennis.

Hi Stephen,
Did you have any instructions with the encoder switch ? because if you did it would tell you which wire goes where. Also there are 2 soldered bridges on the encoder pc board which have to be in position for a 5k pot which I think the Spektrum one is. These are shown on the Benedini website by downloading the manual on page 3. I am pretty sure that the orange, red and brown are as I described.
Dennis.

Adrian,
I have emailed you a complete diagram of the circuit I use and have fitted to about 10 transmitters.

Thanks for your help, as ever. Problem solved by experimentation! Turns out that on the Thomas B encoder, the centre wire is signal, despite it being red. The clue was in you're pointing out, Dennis, that the signal wire was in the central position on the toggle switch and I saw it was red. Ho hum, that's one for the album.
Now with metal bashing, you can see what's wrong......
Thanks again all.
Stephen

Shows what happens when you ignore standard colour codes, especially if it's your standard
Thanks for the circuit Dennis - interesting reading.
Adrian.

What is annoying is that no instructions were provided with the encoder.

I'm looking to install a Benedeni encoder onto a Futaba 7C radio, but the tutorial pics that are on the 1st page are not working. Does anyone have these images or a good step by step on doing this mod?

If you know where to look, you can still find the missing PhotoF*ckedUp images.
