Comet

Post by phil fitzpatrick »

Thanks Martin :D
The Photo's in the book of the Comet T335346 WHY WORRY
showed Cam Nets so I wanted to have a go.
I couldnt a proper net makers needle small enough so I am having
to use a knitters sewing needle, with a big eye and a blunt end.
Just done a bit for the back of the panier,so I have done over 6500
knots now.
Cheers
Phil

Really looking good now Phil. Mine is nearly finished just the smoke unit to sort out. Barry and myself were down at the Museum on Friday all day with his Tiger and my Panzer entertaining the visitors, good day. Some other owners went down on Sat/Sun, I couldn't go on that one. We are hoping to get an outdoor running area set up down there, as they have offered us a piece of spare ground. we are building a bridge and houses at the moment.

Thanks Dennis
Sounds as though you are really busy down there at the museum.
You shouldnt have mentioned bridges and houses,Phil Woollard
might be listening and he will want to blow them up
I know you said you had still got to do your exhaust electronics,
it will be good to see the vidio.
I've been experimenting with getting smoke up the Main Gun,
I bought a piezo but although it was instant it didnt quite have the
volume and then there was the mist turning back to water drops.
I tried my Armortek smoker and that was good when used like
the belch on start up,but I'm not sure of the life of the elements
with the fan not running as it would with an exhaust.
I only had 8mm copper pipe aswell to try it and that showed up as
a no no,because of the heat transferance up the pipe against
the electric cables, but nylon pipe should be alright.
A big plus is the new Armortek conversion so that would pump a
good lump of smoke up quick.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil,

Don't know what the other m/c gun sounds are perhaps John will know or email Thomas. That more powerful fan looks good I wondered if it might fit in the Panzer somehow, will have to speak to Mark to get some dimensions. As regards the museum spoke to one guy down there and when we told him that there were a couple of A34's about to appear on the scene he said that was great as apparently they have a lot of ex Comet drivers come in from time to time.

Hello Phil, well done, that is one super duper Comet...as you know your particular tank build has been my inspiration.

When I reached the point where I could not see the wood for the trees.....both you and Dennis gave me the lift I needed.
I have followed your progress day by day, month by month, and can at last see what the finished Comet should look like.
I know I have said it many times, but the help and advice on this Forum is suburb.

I guess your next high point will be the Comet chewing up the lawn, all guns blazing, belching smoke. Well done, mate.

Thanks for reminding me about the M/G splitter, I knew it was there somewhere. Pity about the other M/G sounds.....perhaps I am being greedy.....I would still like to know what M/G sounds they represent though.....Mick

Hello Phil....now you are ready to roll.....get the crew out of the NAAFI.
Where on earth do you obtain all your accessories. I can see that some are hand made and scratch built???

I hope one day to see your Comet in the flesh. I have been busy with appointments this week, we have a few more over the next two weeks.

I have found time to strip the wiring back, as most of the front deck/turret/rear deck etc, was not fixed down. I greased the turret ring and elevation drive. The wiring was replaced and tidied up. I then ran the battery/PSU/Timer wires to the rear.

I have fitted EC3 plugs on all the connections to the rear and on the battery charger, so everything matches....screwed a few EC3 plug up in the process....my soldering needs more practice. I was able to complete the plugs following a 'how to' on the E-flight website. they are neat units and should carry the Amps.

I can now move on with the Comet build...mainly finishing. I did , of course test everything at each stage. Did not want to mess your good work up.

So, all being well, I can send for the 'Show' tickets.

Thanks again for your help...keep in touch....Mick
