Armortek

If Armortek is serious about making 1/6 Aircraft frames, how about the FW-190A8, or the ME-262? Since I haven’t seen any CAD drawings on how they would propose doing a Spitfire, the thought of them accurately rendering the thin stamped bulkheads and wing construction as on original A/C makes for some very interesting thought in skinning a portion...and leaving some as a phantom view of the guns and mechanics of these machines. I compliment this idea, as although static, very good way of expanding your product line! This I think, other than still wanting my M4A1 Sherman...is the most interesting to me.

The survey will run until the weekend and then we will spend some time analysing the results and pulling together our roadmap.

Jack - the issue with the M4A1 is not the fact that there are castings needed, it is that there is insufficient demand. Casting companies, like us, have minimum order quantities - or the costs sky rocket.

As an aeronautical engineer, would love to make an aircraft - although the spitfire was posted as a april's fools joke last year and got carried into the survey as a continuation of that .. although never say never !

I appreciate your honesty regarding the M4A1. I must admit however, I am surprised that there is a lack of interest in such a prominent tank in the history of armored warfare....perhaps this will change? In regards to your being an Aeronautical Engineer. I have flown in the Air Force and American Airlines for a combined total of 38 years. I too have interest, as do many of my friends in the Airframes and Power plants used in those aircraft of WWII. Please consider it more than a joke....it would certainly fill a niche, or create a whole new modeling venture.

Heresy I know, but would the M4A1 actually need to be made from a cast hull

All of the cast bits on the M3 kit were machined. And if you did do the Easy 8, the whole of the front of the upper hull and the hatches are cast.

I'm not suggesting you take a 200kg billet and machine a cast hull from it, but it ought to be possible to use thicker hull sides and top and machine matching curves into them. Might take a bit of filler to hide the joins but much less swarf generation

Well, you could always start with the Merlin... and then branch out from there? Once you have the engine model... it fits in airplanes, tanks, PT Boats, Ghost chassis....

Let's see... four Merlin kits hung on a 1/6th scale Lancaster would require how big a bench?

P.S. for the metal model enthusiast who is interested in a neat laser-cut aircraft... check these out? Not in the league of Armortek... not even close. And I am not even sure the company is still in business. But the kits do occasionally show up on eBay and are pretty impressive!

Hi Robert, I am renovating a 1/12th scale Lancaster at the moment that has a 102 inch wingspan, so to answer your question on workshop size, a 1/6th Lanc, would have a 17 foot wingspan

Adrain, I like your line of thinking. I even proposed that Armortek could depart from its commitment to using all metal. There is a very “Solid” and durable means of using Cast Resin with Aluminum powder added that is “Bullet Proof” & It’s cheaper and lighter too! So, there are many ways around this. I wish it would’ve been added to the survey, as it would have been a logical evolution in keeping with Armortek’s history of building famous WWII tanks. But, now we’re seeing a shift to aircraft...OK, bring on a FW-190, or a ME-262!

A cast Sherman sounds Great to me also. M4A1. My Father was a M4A1 Tank Instructor during WW2. Started as a Driver then moved up to Tank Commander then Instructor. Yes, I would have an interest also.

I would like a trailer but I am sure they have not picked it for the next model there is no way it was one of the most voted which they hinted.

Whilst on the themes of aviation how about a 1/6 kit of a Merlin engine! Surely one of the most iconic and important piece of machine of WWII.Armortek did a model of the SilverGhost engine why not the Merlin?
