I think I'm on the home straight about now.
A mod to the rear deck that I think is worth the trouble, if you end up with the wire rope tangling around it's self ( and it will if you don't keep an eye on the feed in but more so the feed out of the cable) you can get to those hard to reach places without taking half the rear of the vehicle apart.

How did you cut the rectangular hatch on the steel deck floor?
How did you decide the size and exact position?

Hardly can find any photo or article to mention about this hatch.

Hi Chang, going through my Famo books a couple of photos show the rear deck being made up of probably 8 by 4 by 16 gauge sheets and one was conveniently positioned over the winch area, so that is what I have reproduced.

All I did to find the correct supported position of the hatch was to lay the ali grid over the deck and mark around that, then using a very thin cutting disc in the angle grinder carefully cut towards each corner, after dressing square with a file I added brass angle to form a neat edge to both the hatch and the opening.
If you are a very neat worker you could almost hide the hatch with paint. I think it will be so useful I don't mind seeing it, and as I said you can show off the winch and the air tanks at shows. You could also cover the deck with timber planks to conceal that way.

Another idea for stowing the canvas covers, this photo shows the front cover folded down and hinged back over the rear cover, the rear cover hoops being neatly stacked over the tool lockers, the vehicle could then have a full load of stores all on display.

So do I Martin so do I, there's so many different looks with this vehicle. Here is some more progress. I've not been very tidy with the tie down straps and folding everything nicely as I am rushing at the end of my day to get the photos loaded for the forum regulars but I hope you guys can see how shes coming along.

Thanks guys, these photos are for Chang and show the access hatch in this particular vehicle, I would strongly recommend performing this mod you guys, when it comes to fitting the rear deck and frame you will see why. If you guy's are not to confident in using an ultra thin 100mm angle grinder cutting disc then I may offer a cutting service but do try your local workshop first as it would be much cheaper!.....Phil.

As it's the day of our Lord just an hours work on the Famo, and I'm hung over from a party last night! I'm reluctant to fill those m3 countersink screws just in case i need to remove the odd one here and there , so I have inserted a rivet head in each to hide them for now.
Not that far off her first outing now, I will shoot lots of video just as soon as.
Florian all I did with the crew hood frame was to make a bracket to hold the hoops in the collapsed position, to put the hood up it's just 4 m3 screws to undo and reposition but I think it may live in the down position for now.
