A question for Stephen, what is the long vessel/tank structure (at the very bottom of this photo) that covers the rear louvres please?
Do you have a better photo or diagram of this unit?

I should be charging a consultancy fee.....

It's the third fuel tank on a Mark 7 or later. To increase the fuel capacity, the first stage was fitting the external 100 gall tank, as on my Cent model. Later, an extended hull was introduced, from Mk 7 onwards, which housed a third fuel tank of 95 galls, located across the transmission compartment, above the gearbox and final drives. So not applicable to Mr Dawe's wagon, unless you're thinking of extending the hull.

Historically, the Praetorian Guard were little more than hired thugs, untrustworthy and totally unreliable. On their few military actions outside of Palace guard duties they were useless. If you want to praise Stephen White as Caesar (and why would you not ? ) you would do better to refer to the 10th Legion, who were Julius Caesar’s Elite.

Hi John it can be a strain at times but I generally enjoy the work and of course the end result, now these louvres are monotonous for sure.

I cannot make 3D drawings from the photo you sent me. So I did some research and found info about Centurion shells here on the Armortek site:

Vince, Phil(s) x2 - the info I posted in the thread Vince found relates to the QF 20 pdr weapon on the Australian Mk 5/1 Centurion. The Armortek kit represents a variant equipped with the L7 105mm gun, for which the ammunition is subtly different, not least with different natures and a different calibre. You might chose to ignore but if you want the more appropriate detail, these might help:



Sorry I haven't got a clearer copy for the markings - you might find something online if you look hard enough.

Vince, the photo was all I could find on the internet. Stephen is correct (as always lol) it's the L7 105 gun ammunition that relates to our vehicle, the rnds in fig 51 are what we are looking for.
The ones you have drawn look fantastic and would be good to keep for the 20 pdr gun also so they would be great to!

I was thinking Vince, if I print the shell and case upside down the detail on the bottom should print quite nicely to, certainly the primer cap will.

So I guess the size of the shell casing for the 105mm is different.
I do not intend putting any details in the bottom of the shell casing except for the primer cap.

They look the same to me but the boss would know. I would say draw as the 20pdr case I can always edit on cura . I have ordered some gold filament to!

Vince - I might hazard a guess that the cases were the same diameter at the back end but the front would be 105mm instead of 84mm ie a different profile from the side. I haven't got any measurements though to prove it. I recall seeing somewhere that it's a myth that the first 105 barrel was a bored out 20 pdr. The chambers were different. The man who would know is Mike Cecil, who reads this stuff from time to time.

Cart Cases:
20-pdr is 84 x 617mm R
105 is 105 x 617mm R

Essentially the same case base diameter and same length of 617mm. Both are rimmed (R), both electric primed.

As an aside, a 105mm barrel will fit directly into the mounting, breech ring & block of a 20-pdr. 169064, for example, is fitted with a 105mm L7A1 barrel from a Leopard AS1.
